COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is it! The powerful, full-bodied, strong beer which is Andechs’s trademark. Brewed in the traditional Triple Mash procedure and available throughout the year, not just during the "Starkbierzeit"!

When the evening passes into dusk and the day draws to a close, time goes a little slower. Just the right time for a glass of Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel. Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel – mouthcoating, velvety, strong This world famous bock from Bavaria’s Holy Mountain is not meant to be rushed, but savoured slowly. As solid as a rock, Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel presides over the evening meal with a colour reminiscent of dark copper with nuances of fiery red. Its clear gleaming look harmonises with its firm, fine pored head. Also the aroma delights the connoisseur: soft roasted accents and a nuance of dried fruit carrying a vein of caramel. This Doppelbock Dunkel from Bavaria’s Holy Mountain presents a pleasant effervescence. And then there’s the unmistakable flavour: mouthcoating and velvety, strong and yet pleasantly malty – a powerful, robust body. At the same time, it develops an easily recognisable sweetness, embraced in roasted cocoa and a light, bitter hoppiness. Concluding with a powerful punch, this Doppelbock departs with a lingering aftertaste of quality plain chocolate. A strong Doppelbock that embodies the centuries old Benedictine brewing tradition, sip by delicious sip (original extract: 18.5%, abv: over 7.1%).

Pours with a nice 1/2" light khaki head... the brew is dark brown with beautiful garnet highlights... good lacing. Nose is dark toast... very malty... light caramel... Flavor mirrors the nose... no chocolate like some darker versions (like Celebrator)... just pure malty goodness... something that I associate with dates with warmth, so does a grainy sweetness. Very smooth body... the head is so creamy it almost feels like nitro. Worthy of the hunt and the reputation.

Pours flat. Aroma very similar to Newcastle. Flavor is outstanding but palate would be better with more carbonation.

500ml bottle served in my huge Weihenstephan Weizen glass. A: Pours a beautiful deep dark amber colour forming a big bubbled and beige head. Good retention but not much lacings left S: Quite sweet and toffee in the nose and a little bit smoky too. Notes of caramel malts, grapes, brown bread and Lager yeasts T: Follows the nose, a quite sweet, toffee and molasses upfront. Roasted and caramel malts. Notes of coffee. Brown bread and raisins with a great stingy hoppy bitterness in the end, delicious... M: Medium body. Quite molasses. Medium carbonation. Very well balanced bittersweet aftertaste O: High drinkability. One of the best German beers, for sure. Very rich on smell and tte. Not recommended, but mandatory [ BA Review @ 12/23/2009 ]

On tap. Served a dark brownish color with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, bit of toffee and dark fruit in the background. Taste of roasted malt, nice caramel sweetness, dark fruit and bit of grain. Nice bitterness and a fairly dry finish. Medium body, smooth, quite creamy and very well balanced. An enjoyable beer that has a nice robust feel to it.

Flasche aus einem Kaiser’s in Berlin. - Tiefdunkles Kastanienbraun, kurzlebiger beigefarbener Schaum.

lots of caramel and subtle roasted malts, taste is very sweet but also tough and bitter... nice fizy carbs and a big caramel burnt sugar bitter finish... very drinkable, but a bit simple? todo: drink warmer!

Bottle at home. Pours a clear, deep reddish brown colour with a medium, beige, creamy head. Malty aroma of nuts, rye bread, cooked vegetables, wood and some leather and chocolate. Sweet flavour with more chocolate, wood, dried fruit and leather. Has a slick and silky mouth feel, and a light bitterness. A malty beer, balanced but I’m a bit disappointed.
