3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
500mL bottle purchased at Bierkoning on my Amsterdam trip and consumed in KC. Best before 28/03/12. Pours with a clear dark color and a small quickly fading head. Small bubble are visible as they travel to the surface of the beer. Aroma is strong earthy prune with leafiness. It is very novel and intense but not sweet and well-attenuated. Its different drinking a beer that doesn’t get all its flavor from either hops or ester rich yeast. Some weird caramel in there as well. Flavor is like tree caramel and not sweet. Dark bark/earth at the end of the flavor and it sticks around. Sweetness is there just not sugary. Easy to drink yet full of flavor. Split with two others and poured into a Stone IS snifter glass.

Bottle, 50cL. Home. A clear dark brown beer with mahogany hues ; big beige foamy head ; average retention. Toasty aroma, biscuit, raisin and... grease. Medium sweet, light bitter ; light dry. Medium body and texture, average carbonation, sweet caramel lasting finish. Overall, delicious ; surprising peculiar aroma. Awesome !

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
It is a sweet doppel bock. The colour is dark brown. The beer is not so sparkling and there is a strong presence if caramel and it is makty. It is overall a good product.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20

3.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
500mL bottle purchased at Bottle Barn in Santa Rosa. The aroma on this is really toasted and grainy. Not much else. Super malty. Transparent dark amber body with a egg-shell head that is on the small side. Starts with a super toasty malt flavor that essentially mimicks the smell of a boiling mash. This is a nice, nutty caramel sweetness in the middle, before more of the toasty melanoidin flavor comes in at the end. The mouthfeel on this is sublime. This is a much different idea of doppelbock than I am used to tasting. Some late nuttiness and a little leather, too. Great stuff.

Bottle 0.5l at home, Nivala. BBE 25 03 15. Colour is clear deep reddish copper with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Some dry fruits, chocolate, some sweetness, syrup, hints of caramel and malts. Little bit of disappoint for me.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle, poured into a tankard at ~40 degrees F.
Appearance: Pours a clear amber-brown, and forms a thick, fluffy light tan head with excellent retention. Lacing is somewhat insane.
Smell: Sticky buns with raisins throughout, fresh from the oven and just finished glazing, all bread and sweetness and fruit.
Taste: Sweetness is the primary characteristic, and it is present in abundance, from the first moments of the sip all the way to the finish. The sweetness is definitely bready as well, alongside a sort of coppery, metallic twang. There’s a not insignificant amount of noble hops in this beer, which lends a slightly medicinal taste to the sweetness, and an oddly bitter finish and aftertaste for a doppelbock. I get no fruit or nut aspects from the flavor, possibly due to the hop factor.
Mouthfeel: This beer doesn’t exactly deliver the sort of thick, creamy, sticky mouthfeel I associate with a doppelbock, instead drinking more like a bock.
Overall: Being perfectly honest, this isn’t my favorite doppelbock, nor do I classify it in the same tier as Korbinian and Celebrator. This drinks more like a maibock, and it’d be a pretty darned good one.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Hot Spot. Pours a dark brown color without much head. Malty, but a little too sweet for my preference. Some toffee.
