3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle: #2 of my RateBeer travel list to Germany. Weak aroma (get it with all Andechsers); red-black clear color. Taste is complex: wood, red berries, brandy, licorice, cough syrop. Very good but not great. Food Pairing: Honey BBQ ribs.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle, poured into a tankard at ~40 degrees F.
Appearance: Pours a clear amber-brown, and forms a thick, fluffy light tan head with excellent retention. Lacing is somewhat insane.
Smell: Sticky buns with raisins throughout, fresh from the oven and just finished glazing, all bread and sweetness and fruit.
Taste: Sweetness is the primary characteristic, and it is present in abundance, from the first moments of the sip all the way to the finish. The sweetness is definitely bready as well, alongside a sort of coppery, metallic twang. There’s a not insignificant amount of noble hops in this beer, which lends a slightly medicinal taste to the sweetness, and an oddly bitter finish and aftertaste for a doppelbock. I get no fruit or nut aspects from the flavor, possibly due to the hop factor.
Mouthfeel: This beer doesn’t exactly deliver the sort of thick, creamy, sticky mouthfeel I associate with a doppelbock, instead drinking more like a bock.
Overall: Being perfectly honest, this isn’t my favorite doppelbock, nor do I classify it in the same tier as Korbinian and Celebrator. This drinks more like a maibock, and it’d be a pretty darned good one.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Pours reddish brown with a beautiful creamy beige head with little lace. Aroma is roasted malts, caramel, light dark fruits, light alcohol. Taste is similar with burnt sugar notes, caramel, roastiness, some coffee and some bitterness. Oily mouthfeel, medium body, low carbonation.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Schöne Farbe, sehr dunkles rot, erinnert an Kirschsaft. Aroma: süß, malzig, brotig, getrocknete Früchte. Im Geschmack zeigen sich die gleichen Aromen. Wenig Hopfen.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Hot Spot. Pours a dark brown color without much head. Malty, but a little too sweet for my preference. Some toffee.

4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel has a fairly thick, creamy, cream-colored head, a mostly clear, dark-brown, bubbly appearance, with low-to-moderate lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of rich, sweet, syrupy, brown bread crust, raisin, spiced bread, raisin bread, and brown sugar. Taste is of the same elements, riding alongside moderate hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy, and Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel finishes somewhat crisp, surprisingly drinkable, and exquisite. RJT

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Deep burgundy with a thin dissipating head. Sweet caramel and dark fruits for the aroma. Taste of raisins, molasses, woody and earthy. Very sweet and malty. Thin and oily palate with fairly lively carbonation.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a clear dark nutty brown with a fast fading off tan head. Dark malty and sweet nose with a bit of toasted bread. Bready flavor with a dry dusty malty finish with a kiss of molasses and nutty dark malts. Pretty generic and a touch too sweet.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Great body and flavor. Smells like toffee, great head. Great mouthfeel and the taste of chocolate lingers. You’d never know this is a 7% beer. Really, really solid doppelbock.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Ottima doppelbock scura.
