This is a very good Dunkel. Powerful aroma and taste. Nice palate and lasting taste. If you can find it, buy it!

A nice dunkel, ruby pour, nice head, abit of roasted flavor, with a hint of sourness on the tongue, very fresh taste to this one, as usually the case with the andechser I get locally, another solid beer from Andechser.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Rating #1350. Bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours a clear brown. Aroma is a one dimensional caramel malt and not much else. To taste this is thin, sweet malt and lots of caramel. There is a burnt sugar aftertaste that I don’t like. Very one dimensional and verging on unpleasent. Worst offering from the brewery.

Just tried a 500ml bottle one month past its best before date, this wasn’t a good idea. DONT GO THERE! It was terrible - a sweet syrupy sickly taste, yuck. I dont know whether it should improve with age or not, as my knowledge of German beer is limited, is it a top or bottom fermenter? Therefore my ratings may not be fair/justified. Some comments would be appreciated.

500 ml bottle: Poured cola brown with a medium beige head. A little cooler than room temperature. Light roasted malt aroma with a touch of Worchestershire sauce. A little meaty in other words. Flavor is light roasted malt. Very slight sweetness in the finish with a touch of bitterness. A nice Dunkel.

From tap at the Andechs Klosterbrauerei in Germany. This is the best Dunkels I’ve ever had. A great pairing to the Schweinshaxen and Sauerkraut I had on the occassion.

Another dunkel for me to sample. Aroma is smokey malts going to roasted with a great sweetness as it warms a little. Taste is great, malty dough to start with, however soon turns to a rich roasted malty sweetness with soem sort of juiceyness kickin in as it warms. Excellent, would love to spend a nite on this fellow.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
500 ml bottle, bought in Bier Spezi Hamburg. ABV is 4.9%. Typical dunkel clear reddish brown colour, very good and lingering light tan head. Very nice aroma of moderately roasted malts, flaked nuts, caramel and bakery. Flavour is malty and nutty with notes of dark bread and caramel, not too sweet. German dunkels are not "big" beers, but are, when well made, a truly enjoyable drinking experience. This is one of them.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Orangey brown with persistant head. Aroma of bready malt with caramel, nut and a distinct smoke note. Firm mouthfeel, slightly sweet, soft malty finish. Very good.
