Das Andechser Export Dunkel, gebraut nach dem traditionellen Mehrfach-Maischverfahren, macht zunächst optisch auf sich aufmerksam durch seine kastanienartige Farbe, die zudem rubinrote Anklänge aufweist.

Bottled(500ml). -Reddish brown coloured, medium sized beige head, mild roasted malt nose. Bitter roasted aroma of malts and hops with notes of nuts and smoke. Some weak caramel notes in the finish. In comparison with Doppelbock Dunkel quite weak and watery.

Brick red, verging on brown. Frothy head. Very appetizing to look at. Roasty, sweet aroma. Milk chocolate sweetness. Flavor passed too quickly. All that was left to do was drink more.

500ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Reddish brown colour, with a bronze glow. Thin beige head. Bready malt and chocolate on the nose, with a touch of sour fruit. The flavour is much the same as the aroma, although with less chocolate in evidence. Dabs of liquorice and nice bitter bite on the finish. Quite light bodied, with a distinct prickle in the mouth and a tart, acidic edge. Perhaps a touch carbonic. A rather good, and refreshing, dunkel.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with mostly diminishing light brown head. Burnt malt and caramel in the aroma. Flavor offers malt, hops and a profound cask wood note. Rather creamy on the palate. Average finish with some spiciness. Well made Dunkel.

Clear dark amber color with great head. Clear burnt flavor with a hint of liquorice a truly great Dunkel but only 4,9%.

pivnizub (10100) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - AUG 11, 2006
Bottle: Reddish-amber coloured, medium-sized fluffy off-white head, quickly diminishing; sweet, dark-malty nose with a tinge of molasses and some fruitiness; sweetish flavour with the faintest idea of bitterness, medium bodied; sweet-fruity and malty finish. A pleasant, well rounded brew, but nothing spectacular.......

On tap at GBBF ’06, 10 fl oz. Dark brown beer with thick head. Sweet fruity silky smooth beer with a heavy chocolated malt. Some burnt, roasted woody notes. Lacks a finish, being a little thin on the tongue at the end and retains a CO2 taste. A reasonable if unspectacular beer.

StewardofGondor (1934) - Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 13, 2006
Bottle from Germany. Translucent cherry-lacquered brown in color with a dense, spongy, 3/4" tan head riding on top for the duration of the beer. Aroma is delicately composed of french silk pie with chocolate graham crust, stark chocolate toffee, flame licked tree bark, and turtle fudge frozen custard. Flavor chimes in as lighter fairing. Cocoa dusted, crushed graham crackers. Silky chocolate trait folds back the fragile flavor layers. Liquefied chocolate wafers emit a vibe akin to a touch of room temp hot chocolate, cooled at its warmest state with an ice cube or two and dulled it down by doing so. Mildly roasted accents with circumstantial caramel drizzles. Errs on the light side, gently tossing over the tongue with a moment’s respite at more concrete semi-chocolate characteristics. A mild chocolate butterscotch generality gently weaves in and out as we go along. Light french silk custard comes out again the finish, coupling with a eased mocha torte airiness.
