Dark ruby red colour with small off-white head. Mild caramel and roasted malty aroma. Flavour is malt and some grassy hops. Highly drinkable and rich Dunkel.

500 mL bottle from Beers of Europe poured into a pint glass. Lovely ’cooked’ aroma. A light brown with a good head. This is an excellent example of a roasted dark beer, say no more. by a long way one of the best German beers I’ve tried.

Pours an elegant deep coppery body, crowned by a medium, off-white head with a certain staying power. Aroma is faint roasted malts, with hints of bread and caramel. Taste is even more roasted; you can virtually feel the crackling of heated grains against your tongue as you drink. Aftertaste is milder, with hints of freshly baked bread, nuts, caramel and burnt sugar. Full-bodied, and with a smooth palate. A very sturdy, almost stout-like dunkel from Andechser, and definitely among the more roasty specimens of the genre - sometimes it’s just so good to get away from all that caramel...

Great conditioning - the head doesn’t pillow initially, but it does linger. Wonderful dark brown, but on the lighter end. The aroma is plenty of wood and forest, dark wheat bread - incredible. The flavor is grainy, bready, slightly sweet, and a little hoppy. Delicious and insanely drinkable. I cannot believe how lucky I am to have a source for Andechs in my town (Thank you Alma Delikatesy!). Best before Dec 2010.

Bottled. Nutbrown color with a gorgeous creamy off-white head with nicely layered lacing. Nose is malty, and a bit of roasted tones already. Aroma is malty, roasted and some caramel. Flavor is quite sweet and less then desired bitter. Medium body, soft slicky swallow and tender carbonation. Excellent dunkel. Please make it just a bit of less sweet to make it perfect.

500ml bottle from KaDeWe. Labeled Export Dunkel.
Appearance : Clear amber with a small head that goes away fast. Not much lacing.
Aroma : Mineral with light notes of raisins and red fruits. Vague notes of caramel. Quite light.
Taste : Mineral with slight notes of caramel and raisins. Some red fruits also. Some notes of toffee. Carbonation very fizzy.
Overall : Nothing bad but it feels really mainstream. Nothing special. The mineral taste gets a bit unpleasant by the end of the bottle.

DruncanVeasey (5136) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - JUN 15, 2010
Bottle. Dark copper with an uneven, persisting yellow-tan head draping the glass.. Deep, pungently malty, slightly brackish aroma conjuring gravy, soy, walnut, leather, Nutella on rye bread, wax and some herbal, bay leaf-like hop as it hits room temp. Clean, bready and substantial with layers of soy and chocolate nuttiness; bitter, faintly roasted finish softening into an insistent hazelnut and Nutella on wholemeal toast aftertaste. Quality.
