Tap, at Café Abseits in Bamberg. Deep chestnut red, thin white head and moderate condition. Sweet and malty aroma with traces of roast barley. Sweet and full in the mouth with plenty of malt and some low roast barley, almost bordering on a barley wine at times. Sweet lingering malt with some solid hop bitterness in the finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the monastery. Pours a deep brown colored body with a two inch, frothy and creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is medium sweet, bready caramels with a light toast and roast, some dark fruits, and touches of chocolate. Flavor is similar. Bready, medium sweet caramels with a light chocolate, some toast and roast, dark fruits, and light toffee notes. Finishes clean and mostly dry with a very light bitterness. Lengthy aftertaste following a smooth, medium body and a soft, moderately lively carbonation. Overall, a very nice dunkel. Sweet, but balanced and very easy drinking. Great beer.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Very little aroma. Pretty dark amber color, fine bubbles, no head. Taste is rather alcoholic and sharpish. I have a bit of a sore throat, and think it’s interfering with my ability to appreciate this. I thought I would like it more than I do.
