This is best dunkel beer I have ever tasted. Great flavor that can not be forgetten. It is not overpowering on the alcohol content. The palate can not be satisfied with just one mug.

From tap at the Andechs Klosterbrauerei in Germany. This is the best Dunkels I’ve ever had. A great pairing to the Schweinshaxen and Sauerkraut I had on the occassion.

very yeasty aroma - white bread dough. light dunkel. plenty of malt but not of the dark kind. pretty luscious stuff - the only thing that tastes like vegemite toast that i like, including vegemite toast

Oooh, this is nice. Bread dough, with some caramel and some nuttyness in the nose. Really soft and full mouthfeel. The balance is amazing. Nicely nutty and bready, some drying hops towards the finish isa touch grassy/herbal, medium bitterness, beautiful.

Draft at Andechser am Dom. Clear, deep, dark amber - like root beer - with a big beige head. Deeply malty nose, some fruitiness. Roasty malt flavors, a whiff of smoke, almost a meaty quality - sweet, smoky meat. Amazing lace rings. Everyone should try this on draft! Excellent!

Bottle. A - Deep redish brown with an average sized off-white foamy head. Decent retention and a little bit of lacing. S - Lots of bread and caramel malt. A little nutty roasted smell. Pretty faint smell. T - A lot like the smell. Good amount of sweet caramel, bread malts. Toasted malt and some mild sugar. Some dark fruit (mostly cherry). A bit of grassy and floral hops provide a bit of balance to the sweetness. M - Medium body and a good amount of carbonation. Pretty creamy and smooth. D - Easy to drink and goes down smooth. Really nice, malt forward beer with enough balance that it doesn’t get too sweet. Notes: Good darker malt beer. Good filing bread like taste and smooth mouthfeel make drinking this quite pleasurable.

Great conditioning - the head doesn’t pillow initially, but it does linger. Wonderful dark brown, but on the lighter end. The aroma is plenty of wood and forest, dark wheat bread - incredible. The flavor is grainy, bready, slightly sweet, and a little hoppy. Delicious and insanely drinkable. I cannot believe how lucky I am to have a source for Andechs in my town (Thank you Alma Delikatesy!). Best before Dec 2010.

500 mL bottle from Beers of Europe poured into a pint glass. Lovely ’cooked’ aroma. A light brown with a good head. This is an excellent example of a roasted dark beer, say no more. by a long way one of the best German beers I’ve tried.
