AKA Andechser Dunkles Weissbier

Andechser Weissbier Dunkel has been the perfect completion to the Andechs monastery brewery’s range of products since 1997. This dark Weissbier retains its aromatic character thanks to the select choice of Hallertau aroma hops and highest quality Bavarian wheat and dark barley malts. Its characteristic, distinctive maroon colour is a feast for the eyes. Then there’s the opalescence and fine structure of the yeast turbidity. The perfect complement is provided by the very creamy, fine pored head. This dark Weissbier from the Holy Mountain will delight connoisseurs with a harmonious interplay of fruity odours, above all ripe bananas and pineapple, with undertones of caramel and cocoa. Andechser Weissbier Dunkel teases the tongue with a delicate tanginess carried by a round, soft body. A light caramel sweetness harmonises well with the fine hoppy bitterness. It concludes on a soft and refreshing note (original extract: 12.5%, abv: 5.0%).

Bottle. Yeast, overriped red fruits, spices, vanilla and caramell hints on nose. Taste. Cherries, chocolate and some coffee notes too. Dry flavor of cherries peel in aftertaste. High carbonated and very drinkable. Surprisingly, it was so tasty!

Chestnut brown, like the eyes of a Tolstoyan Princess, with a half-inch of cappuccino head, moderate coarseness. Aroma is caramel, moist grass, biscuit/scone, light-brown sugar, bit of rye grain. Body is medium-light, watery oily, with a medium-light carbonation of proportional burn and moderate bubble size. Flavor is grassy, slightly farmy, multigrain bread, a mere touch of caramel (rather dry compared with the aroma.) Light apple.

Pours a light brown color, topped with a decent cream colored head. Mild malty aroma, some nice notes of chocolate and caramel. Starts sweet and slightyl roasty later on, finishes with an easy bitterness and caramel notes. Not too bad, yet nothing really special.

Bottle L3013.
Glass: Weizen glass.
Appearance: Hazy chestnut body with sediment in suspension. The head is massive with great retention and a foamy and dense light tan hue.
Aroma: Bready malts mingle with hints of caramel, chocolate, underripe banana, pepper and clove. Aroma is a tad weak, but nicely balanced and complex.
Taste: Much like the aroma this is a complex and balanced beer. Bready semi-sweet intro with hints of caramel lead to a light cocoa coating over a almost ripe banana. The finish has a light clove and bubblegum presence. Very enjoyable.
Palate: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Reminds me of soda going flat.
Overall: This is an outstanding dunkel and it’s available at a great price. I’m very happy with this. 500ml of a world class dunkle for $3? Yes please!

Bottle from Trinkgut in Goch. The beer has dark brown, yet little hazy color and a nice cream colored head, with living carbonation. The aroma is very fruity, with clear tones of citrus and bananas. Also light tones of yeast, a light sweetness of caramel and a little cacao. The taste is full and soft. A little sour and refreshing in the beginning to change into a nice sweetness of from the caramel. The finish is a nice hoppy bitterness which is very refreshing. Well done this dunkelweizen.

Wie das helle Weißbier ist das Dunkle schön weich. Die tollen Nelken-Bananenaromen werden von einer leichten röstigen Malzigkeit ergänzt. Nicht zu trocken, schön karamellig-dunkel und sehr weich süffig.
