AKA Andechser Dunkles Weissbier

Andechser Weissbier Dunkel has been the perfect completion to the Andechs monastery brewery’s range of products since 1997. This dark Weissbier retains its aromatic character thanks to the select choice of Hallertau aroma hops and highest quality Bavarian wheat and dark barley malts. Its characteristic, distinctive maroon colour is a feast for the eyes. Then there’s the opalescence and fine structure of the yeast turbidity. The perfect complement is provided by the very creamy, fine pored head. This dark Weissbier from the Holy Mountain will delight connoisseurs with a harmonious interplay of fruity odours, above all ripe bananas and pineapple, with undertones of caramel and cocoa. Andechser Weissbier Dunkel teases the tongue with a delicate tanginess carried by a round, soft body. A light caramel sweetness harmonises well with the fine hoppy bitterness. It concludes on a soft and refreshing note (original extract: 12.5%, abv: 5.0%).

Pours a very dark body, even for a dunkel weizen, with a thin white head. Smells of dense caramel. Taste is banana and dark malts. Mellow and drinkable, but nothing great in any characteristic.

Bottle. Poured a cloudy deep brown with a beautiful thick and creamy light brownish head. Aromas of roasted malt, wheat, banana and some dark fruits. Roasted malt and dry wheat flavours with small notes of banana, vanilla, clove and dark fruits. Slight sweetness throughout and noticeable bitterness. Well balanced and satisfying.

(Bottle) Poured deep dark brown and cloudy with large, long lasting and lightly brown head. Aroma contained banana, liquorice and sea water. Palate was medium bodied with quite a lot of carbonation. Flavours were banana, roastedness, liquorice, sweetness, fruitiness and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet and mildly bitter.

Deep, dark brown pour with an unyielding tan head. Looks amazing. Aroma isn’t as great. Cloves, dark bread, vegetables. Hmm. Flavor is equally underwhelming. More bitter than your average dunkleweizen. Not getting any tasty fruit notes. This tastes really old, but the date on the bottle tells me it should be alright. Maybe it wasn’t stored properly, not sure. Mouthfeel is good for the style. Not sure whats going on here, but this is not as great as I was hoping it would be. Still decent though.

bottle - pours dark brown with a medium light brown frothy head. The aroma was caramel, banana, cookie and raisin with a faint bit of spice. The flavor was reminiscent of a stout, fruity with a slight hint of soy sauce, interesting brew.

Bottle. Banana and caramel malt aroma. Cloudy brown-orange color with moderate head. Slightly sweet banana, clove, and caramel malt flavor with just a hint of smoke in the finish. Nice body. Excellent - a top of the line dunkelweizen (but what else would you expect from Andechs).
