AKA Andechser Dunkles Weissbier

Andechser Weissbier Dunkel has been the perfect completion to the Andechs monastery brewery’s range of products since 1997. This dark Weissbier retains its aromatic character thanks to the select choice of Hallertau aroma hops and highest quality Bavarian wheat and dark barley malts. Its characteristic, distinctive maroon colour is a feast for the eyes. Then there’s the opalescence and fine structure of the yeast turbidity. The perfect complement is provided by the very creamy, fine pored head. This dark Weissbier from the Holy Mountain will delight connoisseurs with a harmonious interplay of fruity odours, above all ripe bananas and pineapple, with undertones of caramel and cocoa. Andechser Weissbier Dunkel teases the tongue with a delicate tanginess carried by a round, soft body. A light caramel sweetness harmonises well with the fine hoppy bitterness. It concludes on a soft and refreshing note (original extract: 12.5%, abv: 5.0%).

9/9/12. Lacks banana esters. Seems to be a theme with most of the weizens I had. otherwise, mediocre aroma, but overall taste is enjoyable.

Bottle from Csakajósör, Budapest. Dark, reddish brown color with medium, creamy, off-white head. Pleasant, yeasty, wheaty flavour with banana. The hop assists kindly. Light bitter taste. Creamy texture, medium body, soft carbonation. Yeasty, banan finish. Very drinkable, delicious, light wheat-beer.

Nice dunkelweizen, as expected from Andechs. Smoky, chocolate aroma, velvety beige head, and crisp espresso bitterness. Y

not as estery as the regular weissbier. the dark malts really dominate the aroma and flavor of this very sturdy yet complex beer.

Gravity at GBBF 2013. Cloudy medium to dark brown, off white foam head that stays. Nose is malty, banana, caramel, banoffi pie, clove. Taste is light banana, caramel, light clove, lots of toffee.

500 ml Bottle. Ive read the reviews saying this beer has a thick long lasting head but frrom this bottle it poured a fizzy light tan head that lasted less time than that on a can of coke with a opaque brown body. Aroma wise there is plent of dark fruits, caramel and a slight hint of chocolate and citrus. Tastewise this beer is deceptive. It looks as though it should be heavy but in fact Ive had stronger tasting lagers. The most notable thing is the carbonation in the moth - again almost coke like! However, the is a sweet maltiness that passes through fruitiness to dark chocolate with a dry bitter finish. This beer is an enigma. Its lighter and more refreshing than you would expect but lacking in taste to other Dunkles. After reading the other reviews and trying a bottle for myself - Id advise people to only bother with the draft version.
