AKA Andechser Dunkles Weissbier

Andechser Weissbier Dunkel has been the perfect completion to the Andechs monastery brewery’s range of products since 1997. This dark Weissbier retains its aromatic character thanks to the select choice of Hallertau aroma hops and highest quality Bavarian wheat and dark barley malts. Its characteristic, distinctive maroon colour is a feast for the eyes. Then there’s the opalescence and fine structure of the yeast turbidity. The perfect complement is provided by the very creamy, fine pored head. This dark Weissbier from the Holy Mountain will delight connoisseurs with a harmonious interplay of fruity odours, above all ripe bananas and pineapple, with undertones of caramel and cocoa. Andechser Weissbier Dunkel teases the tongue with a delicate tanginess carried by a round, soft body. A light caramel sweetness harmonises well with the fine hoppy bitterness. It concludes on a soft and refreshing note (original extract: 12.5%, abv: 5.0%).

Drink cold (8°) Eye: pours a dark brown almost black colour with an unfortunately fast dissipating beige to brown head, looks like molasses. Yeast at the bottom of the bottle, so leave 1/11 in the bottle and drink the fist sip out of the bottle. Nose: very fruity (dark fruits like plums and dark berries), brown sugar. Mouth: good, warm feeling. fruits almost disappear but grains come out, wheat foremost. Palate: wheat and other grains Overall: very good dunkles Weissbier i’ll drink again.

Tan head, hazy orange-brown body, some lacings. Aroma; plums, leaves, prunes, yeast, hops, grass, redcurrant, coriander, clove, liquorice. Taste; bread, grass, wheat malts, ripe banana, milk-chocolate, prunes, plums, butter, nuts, caramel, yeast, banana-dough, oranges, marzipan. Good feel, body and lots of tastes. Finishes sweet, fruity, banana-ish, malty, slightly hoppy, lingering and moreish. My notepad is too small for tasty beers as this... :) [50 cl. br. btl. 5.0%abv. BB05.11.14]

500 ml bottle. Hazy reddish brown color topped by a big rocky beige head. Aroma of caramel, ripe banana and smoked sausage. Toasted wheat malt flavor has an underlying tangy character. Hints of banana and milk chocolate. Lovely creamy mouthfeel. Smooth and complex without the residual cloying sweet roasted maltiness you’d expect in a Traditional Dunkelweizen. Delicious!

By far the best dunkel weissbier I’ve had so far. Opaque cloudy dark amber body, tall beige head and gentle charred wood very slightly fruity smell. The taste was of a soft dunkel, a bit bittery, carameled sugar, yeast and roasted malts. Excellent beer!

An opaque medium brown body with a thin tan head that had great retention and lace. Aroma had a nice bread like malt presence. Notes of chocolate, mild smoke and a nice wheat presence. Flavor was well balanced. Some nice rye bread notes and a hint of molasses. Mild chocolate and smoke in the finish. A good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On draft at Brotzeit. It pours a cloudy brownish amber with a thick khaki head. The aroma has banana pudding, toasty bread with light cinnamon and molasses. The flavor has nice notes of cinnamon and banana with some root beer. Light bodied and highly carbonated. Pretty tasty stuff.

Bottle, deep dark colour. Malty caramel notes, decent hints of the typical Weissbier citrus notes, long finish. I liked the refreshing taste and the fact that it wasn’t so heavy on my stomach.

500ml on tap at the monastery. Aroma is malt, caramel and light toffee. Appearance is dark, cloudy brown with a nice brown-ish head. Taste is light sweet and bitter. A medium carbonation and light dry finish. Overall a superb Dunkles Weißbier.

Cloudy ruby - frothy lace - nose of clove, cinnamon, toffee, dark bread, raisin, nutmeg, pepper - really lovely aromatics - creamy and full in the mouth - bright, fruity acidity up front, followed by dry, aromatic spiciness - clove, light pepper, baked apple tart/sweet combination, mild banana bread - finish of rich, toasty, bready malts, spices, dark fruits - very tasty dunkelweizen.
