A product of traditional multiple mashing, Andechser Vollbier Hell presents a bright straw yellow and clear gleaming look that cannot fail to fascinate. Its head is firm and fine pored. Its aroma is pure and fresh from the cellar, with soft malty accents imbued with floral hoppiness. Its light and soft body leaves a pleasant, tangy taste in the mouth. The mild sweetness marries well with the velvety bitterness of the hops. It concludes on a rounded, harmonious note. Andechser Vollbier Hell is therefore a classical Bavarian Vollbier (11.5% original extract and 4.8% alcohol by volume).

Grain golden colour with a white head. No visible CO2. Aromas of bread, grain and well balanced malt and hop notes arise. Tastes lightly bitter a bit lively with a fine body with a lasting dryness as finish on the palate.

Pours clear golden with small head. Aroma seems slightly off. Flavour is almost non-existing, a slight sourness. Not the best offering from Andechs and a bit of a letdown after the nice British bitters I’ve tried the last couple of days.

Draught at Deep Ellum, numerous occasions, February 2014
Pale yellow, butter colored beer with a small, but moderately well-retained white head. Plentiful carbonation in the bright liquid.
The hops are restrained but crisp and noticeable, adding a touch of earthiness but mostly a strong, herbal spiciness. Honey-like cookie dough maltiness balances the hops well and there is definitely a bit of breadiness. No flaws or alcohol. Medium strength of aroma.
Again, just as with the doppelbock, I’m pretty in love with the house character. A touch musty, even a touch acidic; just a quick nip of sourness ending in a fluffy, sweet pils malt finish that is full of spicy hoppiness and balancing bitterness. Again, like the doppelbock, lower in carbonation, which does allow the maltiness to bog down the palate a bit, as the beer warms and breathes. But a helles has always been a malt-forward style and this works in that regard. And it’s far from too sweet, just more of a nitpick. Lovely. Really happy these are stateside finally.

This beer is an incredible experience, with rich undertones and a very balanced aftertaste this beer made me wish that I had a 12 to savor the weekend with.

A not overstated aroma of the freshest possible pale grains. Tastes of fresh smooth grains with the perfect subtle bitter clip on the end that keeps it dry. Unimaginably clean and smooth, with just the faintest appearance of hop bitterness; everything a helles should be without any of the negatives that stick out in so many other inferior examples.

Pours out golden with a little white head on top. Really don’t like the aroma on this one, it smells like ass and is sulfurous with metallic and bread undertones. Thankfully it tastes great, I guess I’m supposed to drink this while mouthbreathing. It’s simple, sweet and grainy with a lovely honey backing associated with this style. Light and crisip on the tongue with some lingering continental hop bitterness. Mouthwatering, refreshing beer overall, maybe I got a skunked bottle?

Draught @ Punk n rum (while playing fussball). Clean, flowery and sweet. Medium, herbal bitterness. Good - as always when it comes to Andechs.
