Formerly known as Andechser Weissbier Hefetrüb.

When summer is on the way and the days invite you to swim, ramble, climb, or simply enjoy the outdoors, you will discover that an Andechser Weissbier Hell is just the right thing to quench your thirst. Since Saint Joseph’s Day on 19 March 1993, Andechs Weissbier Hell has found many new friends. Untreated and bottled in its natural state of yeasty turbidity, this is a top fermented beer for the epicure. Its light honey colour makes it an immediate eyecatcher. Then there’s the opalescence and fine structure of the yeast turbidity. At the same time, the creamy, fine pored head invites you to get to know this light Weissbier from the Holy Mountain. You’ll need two takes to enjoy the aromas to the full. First, distinctive fruity aromas like banana and honeydew melon come to the fore, followed by fine cloves. Andechser Weissbier Hell is a very tangy, refreshing treat with the conviction of a full, soft body. It concludes on a finely balanced interplay of light sweet honey and a delicate acidity with undertones of bitter hoppiness that quickly subside into a harmonious aftertaste. A Weissbier that embodies a slice of the Andechs lifestyle: finely yeasty, tangy, and sparkling, it refreshes and renews the thirst for more (original extract: 12.5%; abv: 5.5%).

UPDATED: SEP 12, 2012 Draft: #25 on my RateBeer travel list to Germany. This could be the dictionary description of a German Hefeweizen, yellow-orange and cloudy, sweet banana and vanilla malt. Aroma a bit weak. Solid. Food Pairing: Fresh green salad and white fish.

Couleur jaune trouble, petite mousse blanche. Bon nez fruité banane et malt. Gout malté, levures et fruité bien cremeux en bouche. Fin légèrement fruitée et épicée. Pas mal pour le style.

Hazy yellow color with white head. Aroma of banana, some other fruits, some spices. Banana, fruit, honey, bubblegum, very nice and smooth. A soft and easy Weizen experience!

Pours hazy yellow with medium, dense white head that persists well. Nose is bananarama with a bit of melon and a whiff of clove. All three are there on the palate as well with pronounced clove joined by white pepper and a touch of coriander. Bread and honey notes offset a bit of bitterness on the finish. Very creamy mouthfeel, but a bit thinner than expected. Still, a very good weissbier.

.5L from tap at Lord Hobo. Pour is hazy golden with a big white head and good lacing. Big banana, bubblegum, doughy, slightly citrusy, some clove, and herbs in the aroma. Taste is banana, bready malty, grassy, white pepper, bubblegum, and yeast with a spicy finish. Full mouthfeel with high carbonation. Good Hefe.

Opaque, applesauce/custard looking brew. White head. Classic continental pint bottle and label. Yeasty, fruity, wheaty aroma. Nicely hopped, a pleasant acidity and fruity banana quality. Body has a great effervescence, and the mouthfeel is starchy but a little thin. Classic, archetypal. ABC Liquors, Betton.

On tap. First taste of this. Characteristic hefeweizen yet a bit shy in both the aroma and flavor departments. All the right notes are there but on this particular occasion they seemed one or two degrees more subdued than I expected them to be. Just doesn’t quite reach the level of my own favorites but I would definitely give this another shot.

Tallahassee, Fl - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - Betton - 500 ml bottle. Hazy, light orange pour, initial snow white head that fades after a while. Clove and coriander in the aroma. Solid, classic hefeweizen flavor with some light banana accents, a touch of coriander, some clove notes in the back end. Mouthfeel has a decent thickness to it.
