Merritt Island Throwdown ’08: Bottle, courtesy Beershine/Oakes. Dark amber pour with lots of chunks floating around. Malty, hoppy, grapefruit aroma. Bitter grapefruit pine dry taste. Finishes with a lot of bitterness.

Merritt Island Throwdown ’08: Bottle, courtesy Beershine/Oakes. Pours a copper color with a yellowish hue. Decent head on this one, and sticky lacing on the glass. Hoppy aromas, with some sour grapefruit, and vanilla. Nice. Bitter bite to start the flavor, with a hoppy and creamy character. Grapefruit and citrus are in the background. Bitter bite, easy drinking and refreshing. Decent overall.

Great hop aroma as expected. Nice light copper color. Has a fantastic hop flavor. Best beer Anderson Valley has brewed yet, in my opinion.

Pours a golden copper with a full, tight, cream colored head. Nose is really beautifully full of pine and citrus hops. Flavor is creamy in the mouthfeel, with the taste nicely balanced between bitter and citrus hops and smooth caramel malt. I think this is mnew favorite AVBC beer. Well done.

Tasted on tap at the 2008 Bistro 2xIPA Fest. This Imperial IPA pours a medium orange gold color. Small to medium sized head. The aroma is caramel and piney. A medium bodied Imperial IPA. The malts are caramel and fruity. The hops are citrusy and grapefruity. Nice balance. Good carbonation. This beer is a balanced a touch toward the hops, but there is enough malt sweetness to balance it at the finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

The initial nose is very orangey... Citrus is certain. Very refreshing and rather unexpected. I wouldn’t agree that it is an imperial IPA, but whatever. It is very good.

22oz bottle from BevMo Mission Valley. A reddish amber pour that was mostly clear. A small off white head with light lacing was present. A very pronounced floral hop aroma with some citric tartness. A very good IPA.

22 ounce bomber purchased at Nugget in Davis, CA. Aroma has a lot of citrus with plenty of orange notes and some mango-like properties. Some pine hops are there as well as just a touch of cattiness. Smells good. Transparent orange body with a large off-yellow head. Good lacing. This has a really smooth, creamy body and wonderful mouthfeel. It has some husky, grainy flavors with just a little sweetness present. Low carbonation. Light citrus, tannin hoppy flavors to finish. Ethanol is well-hidden. A nice IIPA that is balanced well. Perhaps there is not enough hop flavor in this to please the biggest hop heads, but I’d rather have a malty IIPA than one that doesn’t have enough malts.
