Jul 25, 2009 Hmm... somewhat boozy and a strong taste that is reminiscent of chewing on unmilled barley. Certainly very hoppy in the aroma and the subtle dry bitter finish. A nice coating mouthfeel, but seems like this one isn’t as balanced as I’d like it to be.

Jul 18, 2009 AVBC is one of my 2 or 3 favorite breweries in the world. So, I bought up a ton of this beer with eager anticipation.
It is drinkable and not bad, but a let down from the hype that I myself created.
Amber with a cream head. The high carbonation keeps the head but it isn’t a thick lasting head.
Aroma is a bit grassy, and a little spicey yeast. The 8.&% can be smelled from 6 inches away.
Taste is good but not great with notes of pine, caramel, light fruit, etc.
Medium body and an oily finish.
This beer isn’t bad, it’s just hard to imagine that this is AVBC’s big Anniversary release.

Jul 15, 2009 Bottled. A reddish amber beer with a huge yellowish head. The aroma has notes of sweet malt, caramel, and spicy hops. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of hops lending it both notes of spices and citrus fruits, combined with notes of malt and caramel, leading to a very bitter finish. The alcohol is felt slightly on the palate.

Amber color; big solid head. Nice piney hop aroma, sweet caramel and some grass. Good body strength, good caramel flavor, sweetish, with a oily hopping; the alcohol is quite warming. Good, powerful, not memorable.

Jul 11, 2009 Not very good at all. You know when you hoping to pop open a beer and get that hop smile and look of contentment. This is just the opposite. You get a hop frown.

Jul 10, 2009 22 oz bottle - straight from the bottle (I know, I know). Aroma is hops, heavy on the malts, and a touch of alcohol. Flavor is pretty hoppy, with notes of malts, and a moderate alcohol warming finish.

Jul 6, 2009 Extra foamy rocky head. Deep orange body. Lots of bubbles, but not oeverly carbonated. Aoma of fresh hops, albeit not in your face as would be expected for an IIPA. Flavor is well balanced at first sip. Sure, there are obviously lots of hops there, but the malt profile rounds it off nicely. Of the IIPA that I’ve head this one is probably one of my most enjoyable ones, though it ain’t no PtE!!

Jul 4, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours an orangish color with a big off white head. Aroma of hops, apricot, orange, and caramel malt. Taste of resiny hops, citrus and spices. Flavor is semi bitter with a big hop overtone. Finishes with a sharp astringent hop bite in the end.
