2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
On tap at Sunset Grill and Tap. Body is a nice dark golden color with a tall pure white head. Aromas of meaty citrus fruit and stale cereal or dust dominate. The taste has about 5 initial seconds of pleasant hoppy citrus notes that quickly fade into some gross stale maltiness. By the time each mouthful finishes going down I taste leftover pasta burps and sour milk. Okay, maybe the not so bad aspects of those things, but old dry malty notes that sour with the trailing hops. Really not a fan.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2009 Bottle - Pours orange with a large off white head...aroma is sweet fruits, pine resin, yeast...flavour is bold, hops are potent but one dimensional...actually ends bittersweet, weird balance that is sweet and savory...still getting my head around this one...

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sweet canalope and mild pine aroma.
A medium English Tea color with a copper hue.
Strong English Tea flavor with a tangerine and canalope hop taste.
Medium to strong bodied and lively crisp carbonation with an alcohol feel.
If the strong English Tea flavor can be tolerated this is a hophead delight.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bomber. Pours fairly clear bmedium copper with an ok head. Aroma is earthy and tea-like hops, slight floral character and slight citrus- malt comes through a bit too much- crackery and light stale caramel. Sweet light crystla mlats, some caramel, toast, and earth- with ok citrus hops, light pine, herbal and a bit solvent-like- bitterness in the end is just ok and has a medium body in the end. Kinda sucks if you drink the PTY before this- nothing will stand up I guess. But this still wasnít good.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz bomber. Pours a nice clear copper color with a lively head, like a slightly overprimed homebrew, that dissipates pretty quickly. The aroma is somewhat malty for an IIPA with some resinous hop aroma lurking. The flavor is bitter up front, a nice blend of malt sweetness blending with pleasnt hop flavors in the middle, and finished with a slight sweetness complimenting a nice spicy hoppiness. Overall it is much better than I would have expected.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Stone. Amber color with a light head that completely disappeared. The nose was lightly sweet and malty. The flavor is warming in the mouth. Big and fuzzy and fills the palate. From there it turns sharp at the end.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Fresh draught at Sunset Grill, 2/7/09
We donít have a tap handle for this, so someone just used the Hop Ottin handle. I actually was surprised to learn this wasnít Hop Ottin, so thatís not a good thing.
Plain old cascade/chinook-like citrus in the nose has touches of spiciness and bits of light pine, but is otherwise completely drowned out, on the end, by an overly bready/doughy maltiness and strong honey-caramel character.
An initially pleasant, if somewhat light burst of hops produces peach, grapefruit, candied orange and cherry flavors, but is gone before you can analyze it, leaving in its place honey dough and sweet caramel, and surprisingly little bitterness on the end. Iím not in to much bitterness, but this has to have more, just to balance the malts. Thereís nothing bad going on here, as far as off-flavors or unpleasant malts/hops, but itís like they were just planning on making a pale ale. This isnít a double IPA by measure of the hops and something obviously went wrong here. Way, way, way too reserved/muted in the hop department, especially given this stuff is brand-spanking new. Looks nice, as always, from AV, though.
