Nik925 (156), California, USA Jun 8, 2008 I thought there was a hop shortage. Excellent hop bomb. Not to bitter with huge amounts of hops. Smell is awesome, but has odd bitter aftertaste. Hophead22 (265), Redlands, California, USA Jul 3, 2008 I really enjoyed this beer, seemed really well balanced, and very smooth for the strength. I bought four more. paytoplay (57), , California, USA Jul 10, 2008 What 1st strikes you is the color. Like amber from ancient tree sap. Almost ruby. Aroma is ok, woody and dark hops. The flavor is where this beer really impressed me. Layers of stuff going on, intense, balanced and dense with weight and complexity to it that I haven’t experienced in any other recent Imperial IPA’s. My rating is higher than most but I think this beer needed some time to come around and put on weight, much like a wine. Will have to get more and try one in a year and see if it continues to get better. BBB63 (3810), La Porte, Indiana, USA May 26, 2008 Bomber bottle from Jon, mucho thanks bud, and served in my GL IPA tulip:
Deep coppery sunset hue topped by a frothy off-white head and left excellent lace upon the glassware. Aroma has notes of caramel and bready malt, resiny and piney hops, pink grapefruit and star fruit, sugar cane, clove and grains of paradise, and a mineral water vapour. The taste starts moderately bitter and fruity before a rush of bready malt and grainy character comes to play, very balanced, perhaps too balanced. Nice hop spice and mineral finish adds to a complexity of palate. The mouth feel is rounded and sharp on one side, soft and smooth on the other, matched the flavor profile exactly.
While some people want their DIPA to be bold and brash, I want mine big yet balanced and that is exactly what Anderson Valley delivers here. Mikey Likey A Lot, YuMmY iN mY tUmMy! MakeItDrinkIt (66), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 11, 2008 Golden amber color with a thin off-white head. Aroma is citrus, resin, pine and lightly sweet. Flavor is a very nice big round orange slushy of an IPA - sweet, hopppy, very nicely balanced. Finish is like a tangerine dream - one of teh best double India Pale Ale’s I have had.
