COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Anderson Valley is famous for its fertile farm land, and it is these farms and their farmers that inspired Mowkeef Saison, our summer installment of the Bahl Hornin’ series. Historically, Saisons were brewed on farms in Belgium, and were designed to refresh farm hands after a long day’s work. We believe Mowkeef Saison is a nice innovation on this traditional style, and will refresh farm hands and pub goers alike. Mowkeef, which means “hay reaper” in our native Boontling, is a Saison with a traditional malt foundation, featuring a medley of malted grains including barley, rye, and oats. Unusually hopped with english noble hops, and spiced with ginger, coriander, and star anise, this straw-colored unfiltered ale is a welcome respite from summer heat, and a perfect fit with Anderson Valley’s lineup of balanced, complex, and authentic

Excellent saison, nice meadow/grassy notes some sourdough. Clear golden in color, tight white head, lacing coats the glass

On tap at Global Beer Tap Collection. Pours a hazy orange copper with a tan head and strong aroma of citrus, fruits, and hops. Taste is of fresh hops, citrus, floral notes, bubblegum, and fruits with a dry finish. Nice, very drinkable saison

On tap at Tap Global Beer Collection. Delray Beach , pours a burnt orange copper hazy color with a cream colored head. Nose is deep flavorful citrus, absolutely a great fragrance. Taste is yeasty almost with a bubblegum like taste, with some spice. Finish is citrusy and moderately long . A nice farm ale. Quaff Score 7 / 10

On tap at Anderson Valley, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Nose brings out Belgian yeast, dough, and spices - doesn’t smell like an authentic saison at all. Flavour confirms this, with some nice floral notes, Belgian spices, and fruity esters. Light, floral and doughy - again, nothing like an authentic saison. Still, nice refresher.

A decent yet boring saison. Pours an orange with a nice thick head. Smells like citrus. Taste is like hoppy grapefruit. A little forgettable. Had on tap at Elevation 66. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap: slight haze on a golden pour with a small white head. Aroma is wheat, grass, honey, and something like strawberries. Flavor is rather dry with tart grass, wheat, hay, malt, and a light yeast note. Not a standout for me, not enough yeast funk noted.

On tap at Capitol Beer, Sacramento. Pours reddish amber with a rich beige head and a sour fruity aroma. There is a sweet fruit flavor with a nice yeast presence and a slightly tart finish.

Had on draft at the brewery. This is a solid saison. There is a phenolic yeast character. There are some floral notes, a form bitterness, grainy, and some astringency.

Basically ginger beer and not a Saison. At least not of what I have experienced. Girly beer. Yuck. It is unbelieveable how many bad beers I will try to get to a great one. This ones is pretty bad.

Appearance: Served up a hazed, golden-amber body with a medium-sized, creamyish, white head.

Smell: A mingled, mixed aroma of waterlogged spices atop the base malt melange.

Taste: Initially tangy, but also a bit sugary. Slightly grainy. Some appleskin and apricot fruitiness. Some perceived ’heat’ from the ginger, a little anise, too. Slight bitterness. Remains tangy, vaguely fruity until the drying finish with some lingering spice.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation.

Overall: If I were to line up my saisons in order of preference, Mowkeef would be right near the end.
