bblack99 (194), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Oct 28, 2009 Looks and smells like a stout, but that’s the high point of this beer.
Pours a deep brown-black with a khaki head that quickly thins to nothing and barely leaves dots of lace. Aroma is lightly toasted oats and some raisin/plum. Flavor is a slightly odd mix of heavy roast, a little salt, and some smoke. The sweetness here is odd, and I can’t put my finger on it.
Not exactly a traditional stout when it comes to mouthfeel or finish. Thin, but not quite watery. Finish is puckeringly sweet, which leads to an unpleasant end to an otherwise solid beer. ansermadide (496), Kyle, Texas, USA Oct 25, 2009 Sampled at Flying Saucer’s Second Annual Fall Beer Festival in Austin on October 24, 2009. Very black with a soapy head.
Weak oat aroma and an astringent flavor. A little watery with a dry finish. Skeegle (476), Maryland, USA Oct 23, 2009 Pretty weak beer here. Taste fades immensely on the swallow and by the time it’s out of your mouth there isn’t anything left. Not too great while it lasts either. Very sweet and not too roasty. I would think this beer was yellow in a blind taste test. Not a fan. hopheaven (79), Eureka, California, USA Oct 20, 2009 Redolent of lightly toasted caramel malt with little trace of coffee. Presence of milk chocolate. Fruity hops blend in well and have a pleasant bitterness. Some bitterness contributed from roasted balts is also present. Beer is very sweet and full-bodied with sugary deposits. Lacks malt depth. Nena (113), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 20, 2009 Poured black with a moderate beige head. Roasty aroma of chocolate and coffee. Flavor is bitter chocolate, brown sugar, a touch of prune, some bittering hops. Mouthfeel is moderately rich and creamy. Dry finish. bsjay (54), Oregon, USA Oct 15, 2009 Nutty, creamy, chocolate body. Oat flavor isn’t too far in the front as to overwhelm, but it’s there. Dry, but this is still more Cali than UK. TampaBrew (715), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 7, 2009 Pours black, thin tan head. Nose is roasty grain, cocoa, hints of coffee. Flavor is sweet roasted malt, dry oats, bitter cocoa. Awesome oatmeal stout! Mouth feel is creamy and full. TheGrandMaster (1845), Auckland, New Zealand Oct 6, 2009 Bottle (in NZ), a carbonated pour, deep black with a bubbly brown head. Milk chocolate and touches of sweet caramel and coffee on the nose. The full mouthfeel is both dry and creamy at the same time. Milk chocolate again with a grainy and dryish finish. Reminds me of the old Emersons Oatmeal Stout.
