With its deep, dark brown-black color, thick, full-bodied, velvety-smooth mouth feel, mocha character, and, strong yet subtle hop bite, Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout is one of the thickest, richest, and most complex stouts on the market today.

Black color with a medium head. Small amount of malt in the aroma. Is that banana as well? Kind of plain and watery with a grainy taste. It’s missing all of the goodness of a stout: malts, roasted malts, coffee... anything.

This is a classy brew. Some beers pander to one feature or another. This one offers a lot of sensations, nicely balanced. It’s classic opaque, chocolate in color with dark frothy head. Deep roasted aromas. Flavor is complex - starts slightly sweet then adds a hint of bitter - they’re both present at the finish. A little bit expresso, a hint of cocoa. a touch of treacle, and something else, maybe a whisper of pine. Full bodied texture on tongue. This one’s a treat.

Very dark with a creamy tan-colored head. Bittersweet chocolate and pine aromas. Oily, chewy texture with flavors of rich sweet chocolate. Smooth, delicately bitter finish. Pretty good and easy to drink.

Poured black as night, small tan head with good lacing, aroma of malts, chocolate, coffee and some bitter. Oh, that tastes good. Coffee, roasted chocolate malts, a bit bitter, a bit sweet. There is a slightly sour after taste that is not unpleasant. This was a treat, thanx, Rich.

Pours dark brwon with a little tan head and some thing lacing. Smells of malts, sweet, chocolate and a roasted smell as well. Suprisingly a bit bitter at first for such a sweet smell, then sweet taste takes over and leaves a thick coating of with a long lasting aftertaste that has a bit of a bad end to it.

Bottle. Small tan head that completely diminished, sparse lacing, fine-medium sized bubbles, very little carbonation, opaque, and a dark brown hue. Aroma was malty, roasty, burnt, chocolate, coffee, and sweet. The flavor was sweet, malty, burnt, roasty, coffeeish. Smooth palate.

Deep dark brown, tan head. Roasty aroma, slight hop. Roasty light flavorwith some bitterness from the roasted barley, some from hops. Slight tartness. Thought the malt character was slightly watery. Not bad overall.

Pours opaque black except for some red hues at the bottom. Thick tan head slowly disipated. Chocolate, oatmeal, cereal aroma. Meaty, pretty thick stuff. Minerals and herbal licorice notes. Coffee and very even roasted cookie malts. Finish is long and toasty.

UPDATED: JAN 20, 2007 Roasted malts, burnt cereal, chocolate, grapes and licorice in the nose. Opaque darkest brown with small-bubbled, dense tan head that recedes to cover. Initial fairly sweet chocolatey flavour is joined by a strong roasted malt flavour and bitterness with notes of anis in the long-lasting aftertaste. Medium-full body has nice effervescence and is engaging in the mouth. What a pleasant holiday surprise! Bottle. *
