3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark coffee hue. Aromas of pine and dark chocolate. Dark tan head. Sweet malt, oily textured, medium to full bodied. Sweetness is very enjoyable, and a lovely bitterseet chocolate finish. Creamy and very drinkable. I would almost like some more alcohol in this beer, or perhaps some more body.

Somewhat disappointing after several friends had talked this beer up. Strong burnt chocolate taste. I prefer my oatmeal stouts a bit smoother, but a decent beer overall.

Sweet aroma, almost like burnt plums. Tangy, roasted, somewhat sweet flavor with a moderate bitterness and an unfortunate cloying finish. With time, reminds me of a Mackeson’s quite a bit, with a milky chocolate taste.

Dark with a great head. Lots of hops. Chewy texture was very pleasing. Would definitely recommend it.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
As dark as they come, the head is frothy, long lasting and light chocolate in color, the lace is in sheets. Nose is toasted grains, bitter sweet chocolate, expresso maybe a better hint as to the aroma. Front is sweet, the top is light to medium, the finish is dry, nice hop presence, long lasting after taste and a quite decent stout. Ranks #420 on my current 1000 beer master list.

Very nice coffeeish stout with some very nice hints of bitter flavors present. Smooth as silk mouthfeel with a nice creamy finish. Very dark and impressive in the glass.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours black and thick with a small tan head, coffee and some hops in the nose. Roasty coffee, with chocolate, good hops and a bit of tobacco, sweet finish. Silky mouthfeel as befits the style. Good stuff.

UPDATED: AUG 2, 2003 Dark brown almost black color, decent size light brown lasting head, chocalate and burnt coffee aroma. Dark roasted malty chocolate- burnt coffee flavors, medium bodied with a creamy mouthfeel, starts sweet and ends with a nice bitter roasty finish with a noticable hop bite, good stuff here.

Nice burnt flavor, but the alcohol is a little too apparent for my tastes. Try the Samuel Smiths.
