Ok, I now know that I really like oatmeal stouts. This beer did not have any real distinctive qualities, but it was just damn good.

4.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a dark leathery brown, settles opaque black, medium cocoa brown head fluffs up from a vigorous pour and subsides some to a thin haze and a fluffy sponged collar on top, lace in inkblots. Smell is quite mild and subdued of light chocolatey sweetness with a bit of roastyness and oat tangy sweetening. Taste is very mild with a persistant chocolatey sweetness that sets the overall tone with small notes of oats and roasted malts and faint touches of coffee. Finishes with a bit of drying roastyness and cocoa and a clean milding crispness. Feel is a solid medium body with no real characteristics of sweetness lingering or standing out any where, overall just a smooth somewhat creamy, chocolatey pensive quality. The chocolate tones are very nice; its a fine drinker, quite smooth and easy with a nice chocolateyness. Right up there with Black Widow.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice dark brown color, small head that faded quickly but left a very small lace behind. The aroma was sweet and roasty, oats and chocolate and maybe a little coffeeish taste as well. The finish is semi sweet dark chocolate and mild hops. Not a bad brew at allFairly decent and drinkable but in many ways a little light in the feel, but still worth trying.

I like this one, probably my favorite stout besides Old Rasputin. Nice creamy body, with reserved use of roasted barley. Chocolatey flavor, balanced by gentle hops flavor and bitterness. Great sweet stout.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: OCT 8, 2006 A roasty discharge accompanies the chocolate cookies...Burnt notes furnish the palate appropriately as a fruitiness establishes itself for the long run...It is too carbonated and too lean for mu likings in stout, making the palate not that comfortable...Roastiness comes to ashes, as fruitiness finishes the sip...Fondness is inevitable for a well-made stout, but in this case I know I can find a much more satisfying example of the same style...
