Black, tan head, nice and creamy for a bottle beer. Roasty malts, coffee, hint of chocolate in the flavor, with any bitterness seeming to come from the roasting rather than hops. Pretty good, but could have been fresher.

a very nice smell off the cap. sweet creamy taste that leaves the mouth wanting more. so you drink more and the stout settles nicely.

Has a very dark brown color and a roasted smell. Taste is also roasted with a mildly bitter finish. Overall I do not like stouts too much, but this one was not half bad.

A deep dark brown color with a grey foam on top, this oatmeal stout by Anderson Valley is a good one. Smelling of toffee, coffee, chocolate, and malts, It taste sweeet with a malty, coffee taste with a hint of toffee. A good beer by AV.

Forget about it. Even though it’s got a most unappealing name and packaging, Barney Flat really came though on the stout tip, yo. About as perfect as it gets to my idea of the perfect oatmeal stout. Rich like Puff Daddy, dark like Biggie Smalls, more head than Tupac Shakur (I know that was evil.....He got shot in the head, in case you weren’t aware).

This beer poured almost pitch black with no light getting through it. The head was a bubbly dark tan that subsided quickly and left little lace. Very little aroma present, with hints of malt and coffee. The flavor was of malt, coffee and chocolate. The body was a bit light for a porter. The finish had a bit of a sour aspect, but nothing to ruin the beer. An alright oatmeal stout, but for price, I think Goose Island does a better job and of course it can’t touch a Samuel Smith’s

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2003 6/7/02: cask-conditioned draught: Faint chocolate aroma, poured black with a tan head, coffee flavor but didn't catch too much of an oatmeal flavor, 6/14: Bottle: I'm going to have to boost it up a few points from before, from a bottle it was very good, with a very nice 'wish it wouldn't end' coffee like finish, caught the oatiness this time

Citric hops frame the dark malts so nicely, both in the nose and flavor. Lots of fruit and roasted grain malt. Superbly structed and balanced. A lively stout.
