Aroma: Roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Appearance: Brown/black with reddish highlights and a brown head. Flavor: Mocha, caramel and dark malts - just enough hop bitterness to keep it balanced. Palate: Medium to full bodied with a smooth, oily texture and moderate carbonation. Overall: Very nice oatmeal stout if not the most exciting.

Had this on tap at Cullen’s Pub in Benicia, Ca. Oatmeal, chocolate, malt, and a little bit of hops come through. This one surprised me. Good stout.

On tap at Bohemian Cafe. Pour was near black; left lots of sticky lacing on the pint glass. Allowed to warm for about 10 minutes, but still had a relatively light aroma; featured medium and dark roosted malts with dark chocolate. Taste: also not strong; more like an Irish stout in intensity than expected. Slight smoke but no burnt notes: just as I prefer. Marginal hops mainly keep the sweet/bitter balance spot on. M: A tad light overall, with a very light finish; very smooth; ~ perfect carbonation. O: Not the world’s best oatmeal stout, but still may be one of the best and can serve as a gold standard in this category, being a virtually flawless rendition of a straightforward version.

Good stout. Nothing overall that blew my socks off, just solid. Roasted aroma and black as could be. Slightly off-white head that was quite foamy. Mainly burnt toast and some woody flavors. All malt with barely any hops on the finish. Not heavy and maybe a little thin for my liking. Easy to drink. Well balanced.

Dark brown head with an almost zesty aroma at first then easing into a vanilla. Carmel/nutty feel at first taste after a couple tastes it gets more grassy barnyard feel. As most stouts the color throws you off. It’s like that nice gang-banger you know who looks heavy on the outside but is really sweet.

Can to snifter. Dark black pour with large amount of light brown head. Heavy chocolate aroma with a hint of oatmeal. Very light feel in mouth and very sweet finish. Not 100% sure what the taste even is.

Deep dark brown that is pretty much black a thick tan cap floats on top. First sip is smooth and epic. Aroma is not as good, but still very good!! Aroma seems kind of chalky but with massive sweet chocolate, I’m hitting roasted cashew but that seems like a stretch, the more I smell the more I smell fresh backed chocolate zokini loaf, rounds out with mild coffee. Taste is sweet and chocolaty with just hints of ash. Brew just finishes dry and bitter. Mild earthiness. Why is there a aspertane flavour in here? Good beer but kind of a let down from the reputation.

355ml bottle at Porterhouse Cork courtesy of Diarmait on my birthday. Pours a dark brown/charcoal with a thin and smooth beige head. Not much of a nose but some oats and chocolate. Med sweetness and light smoky bitterness - quite peaty. Smooth and sweet to finish. Decent but nothing special.

I love this beer. This is one of those perfect American-made Oatmeal Stouts, when brewers use proper decorum as far as hopping is concerned. Dark chocolate and roasted malts on the aroma and flavours. A bit of cherry and brine on the aroma and a sour note on the flavour, that "Murphy’s" type of delicious sourness! Creamy, velvety, just a delight!

Pours dark brown with one finger of head and decent lacing. Milk chocolate aroma and slight roasted malt. Little caramel and vanilla initially in taste then a big dark chocolate into a dry finish. Mouthfeel is soft and medium bodied with light/medium carbonation. Very good and drinkable. ---Jeremy H
