Commercial Description:
With its deep, dark brown-black color, thick, full-bodied, velvety-smooth mouth feel, mocha character, and, strong yet subtle hop bite, Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout is one of the thickest, richest, and most complex stouts on the market today.

Poured into a standard pint glass. Pitch black with a small brown head which dissipates rapidly. Aromas of vanilla and roasted malt aromas more pleasant than the taste. Taste os of burnt malt and smoke. overall, a wuality brew, but would prefer a different oatmeal stout.

Poured into an english pint glass with an oily black colour and large frothy tan rocky mountain head, easily aggrevated from a gentle pour. Nose of roasted malts, cocoa, and strong aluminum. Initial taste of cocoa and roasted malts. Finishing with coffee and bitter hops on the palate. Palate duration is average. Medium to full body. Good lacing of the glass and head retention.

Bottled. Poured a healthy deep brown with a creamy cap of medium beige head. The aroma picked up nicely roasted semi-sweet chocolates, cocoa, and lactose sweetness.. overall, sweet, malty, and enticing. The flavor had sweeter chocolates and oats at the core, surrounded by moderate coffee and chocolate bitterness.. lenghty finish picked up some odd tarry notes along with some sweet chocolate and coffee bitterness. Medium-bodied with decent balance.. bit tacky at times. This was a good one.

Bottled, consumed on 11/30/07. Pours a deep brown mocha color. Not very carbonated; only a thin head formed and was gone fast. Toasted malts in nose along with chocolate aroma. Tingly, intense sensation on tongue upon drinking. Mellow roasted flavors carry over into flavor as mild coffee, along with nearly-hidden traces of red grapes. Odd this is called a sweet stout, as it is not especially sweet. Lingering astringent finish has slight bitterness. If it weren’t for the serious parching, it would be pretty laid back. Not sure I like this one too much.

Black with a big and lasting, frothy, off-white head. Chocolate, biscuit in the aroma, not very complex. Grainy, roast flavour, thin initially, with a nice roast finish.

Bottle. Tasting @ thewolf. Pours pitch black with a big creamy light brown well lasting head. Aroma of roasted malt, bitter chocolate, coffee and oat. Very good mouthfeel. The flavour has plenty of roasted malt, and chocolate, some coffee, oat and some bitterness. Dry roasty chocolate finish with a slight bitterness.

Bottle @ tasting at my place.
[thank you, after4ever]
Pours deep deep - almost black with a great beige creamy head. Aroma is oats, dark chocolate. The oats are very apparent. Mouthfeel is initially quite lively, but turns much more creamy. Flavour has oats, chocolate, biscuit (a touch of metal), weak coffee. But the overall impression is a bit lacking and the oats are far too apparent.
