With its deep, dark brown-black color, thick, full-bodied, velvety-smooth mouth feel, mocha character, and, strong yet subtle hop bite, Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout is one of the thickest, richest, and most complex stouts on the market today.

Was a good oatmeal stout, but has a lot of competition that is out performing this brew head over heels!

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2014 Grassy aroma with some chinese soy sauce, smoked ham on crisp bread and fresh sour dough bread. Very nice complexity on the aroma. Palate starts out light and a bit thin, but clouds of smoke soon rolls in leading into a balanced finish with a nice bitterness and roasted notes. Could have been fuller and longer, but scores points for complexity and elegance in my book.

Bottle. A velvety beer, both in terms of mouthfeel and aroma, with chocolate liqueur and vanilla, soft floral hops, black olives and porridge. The milk chocolate dominates the flavour upfront, with porridge showing up behind. Itís reasonably full and yet crisp at the same time due to some tartish notes. Itís also sweetish, while the bitterness is very restrained. Very good beer.

12 oz. can poured to a Czech-pils glass displaying a black/brown hue with some ruby highlighting showing through at the base, brownish tan, creamy froth to the head, and clingy spots & streaks of lacing. The nose was light grain & creamy malt, light roast, chocolate, with just a touch of coffee. The taste was similar notes, plus a very creamy mouth feel, low, earthy hop bitterness that possessed some lingering qualities, suitable effervescence, medium body, low alcohol, and a finish that continued the low, roasted astringency, with hints of wood & char. Not overly bold, but exceptionally drinkable!
