yemenmocha (344), Glendale, Arizona, USA Sep 18, 2009 Nose is very roasty, big roasted malt character. There’s a pleasant soy sauce armoa too, seriously.
Big deep chocolatey espresso like malt, dry cocoa powder finish. Hop bitterness rounds out the flavor at the end, but the roasted malt & chocolate are center stage.
Very drinkable. tekhna (100), California, USA Sep 16, 2009 Another solid but unspectacular beer by Anderson Valley. Fits all the attributes of the style, doesn’t excel in any of them except maybe mouthfeel. Decent roast flavor, perhaps a bit sweet on the front, but not terrible. Any more and it would have put me off. plovmand (1590), Helsinge, Denmark Sep 13, 2009 Bottle at Monks Cafe, Stockholm. Black body with a steady tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, ligh coffee, chocolate and oat. Flavour is light roasted, sweet malty, chocolate and tobacco. Medium bodied. mkade8883 (52), Goleta, California, USA Sep 11, 2009 Decent beer with pretty good flavor. Sweet on the finish, with mild flavor. Amazing mouthfeel though, so thick and cream it’s like a blended mocha. Alasdair (76), New Zealand Sep 6, 2009 Fleeting aroma of chocolate and earthy roast. Silky smooth on the palate - melted milk and dark chocolate with a hint of citrus hop. j12601 (1151), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA Sep 5, 2009 On tap for growler fills at Half-Time. Pours a clear brown to black with some crimson highlights and a medium to large tanned beige head. Sweet caramel aromas and not much else. Little bit thin. Roast flavors and slightly astringent. Finishes up with a bit of roast bitterness. Unimpressive. NJJereme (261), Saint Petersburg, Florida, USA Sep 4, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark brown/black color with a light tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate and coffee are readily apparent. Similar flavors. Has a bit of a bite on the finish, medium to heavily bodied. Cletus (5002), Connecticut, USA Aug 31, 2009 Pours dark brown with a tan head. Smells of chocolate, some sweet malt, some spicy hints. Tastes of chocolate, some roasted malt, some spicy hints, nutty.
