Commercial Description:
With its deep, dark brown-black color, thick, full-bodied, velvety-smooth mouth feel, mocha character, and, strong yet subtle hop bite, Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout is one of the thickest, richest, and most complex stouts on the market today.

Large dark brown head into black body. Good lacing. Chocolate, coffee, and burnt malts present in the aroma. Flavor is lightly sweet with a touch of bitterness. Okay oatmeal.

roasted malt and licorice aroma; black ale with a small dark brown, disappearing head; roasted flavor, with a slight sweetness--could be a bit sweeter and richer for my taste; finish is a bit thin and short

mellow bitter composite makes this a really good one. cherry dessert wine infused and some brandy. real classy. still refreshing and a bit... watery. so out of the expresso, coffee, chocolate, molasses that we know we have with all of these stouts. daring and different. due to the quality tastes and freshness combined with the easy drinkability i cannot find any reason to go below a 4 on this beer! this could easily make a stout guy out of this hop head. mellows well in the glass. barely a hint of alcohol, this is what you drink when things are good and when they go bad. bravo! excellent bitter on the finish - there - then gone.

This was really perfect looking.Nice foamy, lasting head.Black color.Very appetizing. The aroma was of roasted coffee, and a tad of skunk. The palate was about average. The flavor was of roasted coffee,a hint of chocolate, hint of skunk, nuts, maybe some cherries.Had pretty good body.Finished bitter and sour, but not too much.I would have liked more stickyness to the palate, and more chocolate in the flavor. Also, maybe a fresher bottle,as it had a slight taste of skunk, which somewhat ruined this for me.I gave this a higher rating because it had complex flavors.Would buy again, but try to get a fresher bottle.

12oz. pours black with rocky tan head. aroma of spoiled milk and wet grains. flavor is slightly soured, oats, milk, grass, weak milk chocolate. mouthfeel is watery. this came as an extra and it sorta tastes skunky and past it’s prime. i find this to be quite unpleasant.

From start to finish this beer keeps your interest. I found it had alot going on with its hearty well balanced flavor the chocolate nuttyness was keeping my mind on when I would have another! Good Job on this one!

Appearance: Dark brown instant coffee appearance crowned with a head resembling chocolate milk bubbles. Smell: Mostly mild coffee in the nose coupled with a bit of chocolate-dipped oatmeal cookie sweetness. Taste: All the classic flavors are present: sweet malts, good coffee, earthen roastiness, and a bit of smoke. All flavors are nicely layered with a rich milkiness. Also, there’s a gentle hoppiness that emerges near the finish. Mouthfeel: Medium, though nicely textured and wholly drinkable with decent amounts of carbonation. A good soothing beer. Drinkability: The unaggressive nature, and overall smoothness of the oatmeal stout style certainly lends to an ease in drinkability. Do I "love" the beer? No, probably not. I do like it a great deal, though, as well as recommend it to others. Enjoy!

bottle- thick black in appearence, reddish tan head. slightly smoked peat, coffee, subtle oatmeal flavor. A good brew to enjoy in the fall, but not appropriate for the hot June night I sampled it.
