jriggenbach (9), Houston, Texas, USA does not count Feb 24, 2007 Probably the finest beer brewed in America today. Other posters here have described it. You know it’s rich and malty and full-bodied. If you’re on the West Coast, give it a try. BeerVirgin72 (778), Pataskala, Ohio, USA Feb 23, 2007 Poured from bottle. Very dark, very little head. I gotta be honest. When I first stuck my nose in this, I smelled a baked pretzel smell! It smelled great! Tasted sweet, chocolately, creamy, coffee, and definitely a toasted taste. A few reviewers have said its watered down. Probably why I like it. I thought it was pretty good, well blended, not too bitter at all...Which I prefer...Very good! My first oatmeal stout...YUM! bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Feb 23, 2007 YUM YUM Poured a very very dark brown color with small head and great lacing. Aroma was of chocolate and coffee. Flavors were much the same. Very very nice balance with the hops. Solid beer for sure. rotoguru (93), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Feb 20, 2007 Pours dark (duh) with brown head. Good balance of coffee and chocolate flavors with sweet background. Creamy, smooth texture. Really quite good. cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 17, 2007 Updated: Jul 11, 2008When I saw a bottle of this I had to try it. Oatmeal stout, got to be sweet and tasty, right up my alley. Sweet stouts are one of my favorite styles. 12 oz brown bottle with an inviting label. Has the ol’ seducing sweet stout aroma, roasty and peculiar. Pours very dark brown and opaque in my clear steeler stein, it is almost black. Very little head, just a tan ring around the edge of the glass. First taste is creamy and roasty with a little bit of burned campfire wood in the background. It’s not jus shy sluggin gorms neemer! The bitterness does continue to build as the drinks continue. I think I am becoming proficient in bootling, the slang of Boonville! Interesting and not too offensive, I find it to be a pretty decent brew. Just goes to show, everybody has their own style and everybody does not like the same style beer. Aroma of roastyness continues as you drink it, does not fade. This brew lacks any of the offensiveness of imperial stouts and is well behaved. I’d like to have another bottle of this so I can confirm the pleasantness of this beer. The only drawback I can find with this brew is the building bitterness on the finish. It is not quite as medicine as imperial stouts or IPA but it does let you know that you just consumed a malty or hoppy brew with its medium bitterness.
bhensonb (4182), Woodland, California, USA Feb 12, 2007 Smooth aroma of toasted malt and chocolate. Solid brown color with a milk chocolate head that laces a bit. Starts with a sweet toasted malt that moves to chocolate. Starts with a firm mouthfeel, but thins a bit. Coffee comes forth. The finish is toasted malt with a hint of bitter. Very smooth, very pleasant, very drinkable. beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Feb 12, 2007 Pours a pitch black color with a thin light brown head. Good aroma and flavor of chocolate, oatmeal and roasted malt with a mild bitter finish. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and gentle carbonation. Good stuff. chimpscampee (556), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Feb 10, 2007 Repectable outmeal stout. Creamy but no excessive, clashing lactic taste like lesser stouts. No vinous aspect. Chocolate and coffee notes are slightly burnt and somewhat subdued.
