With its deep, dark brown-black color, thick, full-bodied, velvety-smooth mouth feel, mocha character, and, strong yet subtle hop bite, Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout is one of the thickest, richest, and most complex stouts on the market today.

In short: smooth oatmeal and recently made bread beer. Aroma is hoppy and liquory, taste is beetween coffee/roasted sensation of hot bread, palate is licorice and hoppy. Incredible beer, like the liquid version of spiced chocolate homemade bread.

Appearance is black and pretty much completely opaque. A beige head which disappears quickly. Aroma- chocolate fudge, dark malts, coffee, liquorice sweetness. Taste- some hop bitterness, big roastiness, chocolate and toffee, some sweetness in the finish. Mouthfeel quite full for the percentage. Good.

The deep dark hue and rich tan head are impressive, and somewhere behind the mocha aroma I was surprised by an earthy roasted aroma of yeast and malt - almost a hint of Vegemite (for the Aussies out there). Its just sweet enough to carry the hint of hop bitterness perfectly. The full think body doesn’t disappoint either.

Can from deeside drinks. Pours a black with a thin brown head which fades. Aromas of treacle, slight pine and coffee hints. Flavour is mainly chocolatey coffee with that oatmeal mustiness. Tasty.

Aroma has hints of vanilla and a lot of coffee and some chocolate. The beer pours black with a brown foam that fades. Taste is slightly sweet, some bitterness a hint of salt. A touch thin on the body. Oily texture, average carbonation, bitter finish.

"always pleasing. has a nice nose and a great smoothness and flavor. actually a touch thin on the body, but smooth, this is an easy drinking and enjoyably complex oatmeal chocolatey stout. "

Sweet and thick, with a nice burnt-chocolate flavor. Strong alcohol aroma - just like an Imperial Stout (my wife could smell it on my breath from across the room). But damn it was good. Warm and soothing, a nice after-dinner beverage.

330ml bottle, pours black with a small off white head. Rich velvety mocha chocolate, vanilla. Lovely full body, oily texture, soft to flat carbonation.

330ml bottle served in a pint glass. A: Pours a deep brown almost black color forming a big and bubbled tan head. Good retention and only few lacings left in the glass S: Strong smell of roasted malts. Strong notes of dark chocolate, chocolate malts, coffee. Quite biscuity. Earthy yeasts and some flowery hops T: Strong on roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee. In overall, a dry taste. Biscuity too. Earthy notes. Good bitterness which is more related with the roasted malts than with hops. Quite balanced and plasant, anyway M: Medium and creamy body. Medium carbonation. Roasted malts aftertaste O: Good drinkability. Great American Stout [ BA Review @ 5/19/2013 ]
