JFGrind (1346), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 7, 2005 I sampled my Barney Flats as suggested on the back label, as a nightcap. The oatmeal stout poured coffee black with slight tan lace. Roasted aroma, medium body with creaminess, and a crisp not so sweet finish. The bottle I sampled had its own ’Amazing Race’, brewed in Cali, imported to Puerto Rico and mailed to Philadelphia. Makes me wish this was more than an average sweet stout. hayduke (1620), Eureka, California, USA Apr 5, 2005 22 oz bottle. Goodness this is dark stuff. Held it up to a very dark light. Black. Very black. Great brown head. Nice creamy feel and you are hit in the nose by deep malt odors, mediium hops, and chocolate.
The very smooth feel and low carbonation makes this slide down like a good cup of expresso. Overall, a very good brew. Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Apr 2, 2005 Pouring a near black, dark brown color with a brown head, this baby has an aroma of overbaked oatmeal cookies with dark chocolate chips in them... and I meant that in a good way, a nicy roasty way. Very smooth in the mouth, there’s a flavor of roasted malts and burnt chocolate with a hint of hops that comes through mainly in the finish. Very nice. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Apr 2, 2005 Pretty good oatmeal stout. If I remember correctly this is relatively cheap. Got it in Cali at some gourmet foods store that had beers from around the world. Why I picked this one out of the other 10 or so is beyond me. BarePaw (148), Pullman, Washington, USA Apr 1, 2005 This beer poured a darker color with a tan head. It had a pleasantly earthy aroma and a complex flavor of oats and chocolate that was well balanced with hops. It is a good brew. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA Apr 1, 2005 Black Coloring with Sandy Head. Oats Aroma. Bitter Tones..Chocolate and Oatmeal...Quite Nice! ancherrera (161), Cape Coral, Florida, USA Mar 24, 2005 Light aroma. Poured completely opaque. Tan head that faded half way through tht glass. The flavor is slightly sweet with a nice hppy finish. Tasted of espresso. Mouthfeel was smooth. Moderate carbonation. Outstanding. sfontain (506), Columbus, Ohio, USA Mar 22, 2005 Medium-thick, opaque black; brown, fading head; almost no lacing. Smells of chocolate and vanilla. Flavor is nice and mellow; not overhopped like so many stouts; sweet, lightly chocolatey and roasty; vanilla. Medium-thick. A very drinkable stout; doesn’t particularly stand out in any department, but it’s solid in all aspects.
