With its deep, dark brown-black color, thick, full-bodied, velvety-smooth mouth feel, mocha character, and, strong yet subtle hop bite, Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout is one of the thickest, richest, and most complex stouts on the market today.

2009 Tap. What a wonderful surprise! Saw this on tap at my local homebrew supply shop...and wow! What a find. Dark, coffee aroma with a similar complexion. Mocha brown head quickly dissipates. Flavor of cinnamon, caramel, and light coffee, this is a great tasting stout. Similar to other oatmeal stouts with a burned grain sort of aftertaste. Thick, but not cloying. Complex, but very drinkable. A wise choice.

Pours black color with a thick light brown and creamy head. Pleasant aroma and coffee notes in its taste.

Draft at Khyber Pass. Pint. Opaque black pour with a large foamy light brown head. Sweet liquorice. Coffee caramels. Sour chocolate. Creamy and smooth. Oatmeal fullness (and dullness.) Sensing a tart bite here that could mean an infected keg or line. Want to hold off on a full review until I find thus again.

Malty aroma: Sweet, raisin, dark caramel, and subtle roasted malt. Flavor is also malty, but different. Roasted malt, caramel/toffee, sweet, raisin/plum fruit. Coffee-ish aftertaste.

Was a good oatmeal stout, but has a lot of competition that is out performing this brew head over heels!

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2014 Grassy aroma with some chinese soy sauce, smoked ham on crisp bread and fresh sour dough bread. Very nice complexity on the aroma. Palate starts out light and a bit thin, but clouds of smoke soon rolls in leading into a balanced finish with a nice bitterness and roasted notes. Could have been fuller and longer, but scores points for complexity and elegance in my book.
