COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With its deep, dark brown-black color, thick, full-bodied, velvety-smooth mouth feel, mocha character, and, strong yet subtle hop bite, Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout is one of the thickest, richest, and most complex stouts on the market today.

Hops and celery salt dominate the aroma. Mocha and hops flavoring, with a chocolate and celery aftertaste. Seems incomplete.

A nice almost black pour with a thick brown head - aromas of deeply roasted malts, alcohol, coffee - rich sweet flavor with molasses and toffee followed by alcohol and a lingering roasted marshmallow

I'm hoping that the one I tried was from a bad batch or something, because it was horrible. No head, extremely watery on the palate, and absolutely no hints of oatmeal (pretty bad for an oatmeal stout). I was really disappointed with this one. I hope others by AV don't follow suit.

The stout style inherently has a "head start" - I’ve never seen a stout that doesn’t pour that thick, long lasting head. No exception here, and the aroma is rather vivid with elements of chocalate oatmeal-raisin cereal. It does seem rather thin for a stout, almost as if drinking a hyped-up San Miguel dark or similar. As in its description, it is rather sweet; however, it’s not cloyingly so, and the peaty elements still impart a strong presence. The finish is average for an oatmeal stout, perhaps more like bittersweet chocalate caramel, the raisin flavor having dissipated.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown/black color with a light tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate and coffee are readily apparent. Similar flavors. Has a bit of a bite on the finish, medium to heavily bodied.

Thick, black and very viscous texture. Some hop notes on the nose and malt sweetness as well. Very filling and one of the few oatmeal stouts where I can notice the oatmeal’s texture.

Bottle @ the wolf tasting. Pitch black with a brownish head which holds. Aroma of oatmeal, chocolate and a sweetness to it. Flavour of oatmeal and bitter chocolate.

Pours black with a beige head. Aromas of gypsum, chocolate malt and vanilla. Flavors of milk chocolate, vanilla, dark fruit and a pleasant hop bite. Medium mouthfeel. Very nicely done.

Poured from a can into a tumbler on 04.15.14. A: Motor oil. 1/2 finger tan head. S: Toffee, caramel, coffee, milk chocolate. T: Milk chocolate, coffee dominate. Roasted malt is there too. M: Creamy. O: This is a perfectly balanced oatmeal stout. It is sweet, but it doesn’t go too far. It’s very subtle all around in terms of flavor.
