Almost black color. Big tan head. Sweet chocolatey aroma. Big chocolate flavor. Very good creamy palate. Great sipping beer. Excellent beer all around. I brought back a bunch of beer from WY and ID but this is the one I most wish I could get regularily. Perfect in my mind. Only my 2nd 5 but this deserves it. jriggenbach (9), Houston, Texas, USA does not count | 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Feb 24, 2007 Probably the finest beer brewed in America today. Other posters here have described it. You know it’s rich and malty and full-bodied. If you’re on the West Coast, give it a try. noattention (20), California, USA

Excellent. mantis7 (4), Santa Rosa, California, USA does not count | 4.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Oct 14, 2005 I have never tasted a better beer, let alone a better stout. Thick clean tasting with a good head. The only possible way to get a better beer (if you like stouts) than this is to go there in person to Booneville, CA and have one from a keg....Bottom Line: If you love stout beer - you will love this. I would also recomend this beer for someone who is just starting to enjoy different kinds of beers. I gave one of these to my girlfriend who is 23 and "doesn’t like beer" and she loved it!
BTW anderson valley brewery has won many awards including "top 10 brewerys in the US" and this beer (Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout) has won numerous gold / silver bronze medals world wide against WORLD CLASS stouts. It truly is one of the best stouts in the world. And its my favorite! jimmbo123 (37), Washington, USA

Roasted, malty, cereal smell and flavor that both bear sweet hints of chocolate and nut.
Smooth and full body with a perfect tad of bitterness.
This is as good of an oatmeal stout as I have ever found, and I seek them out. Recommend this on a cold wintery day. Suitable for substituting for some warm oatmeal. Great warm finish and oatmeal following. Tops.
