tsarman (794), Northern, New Jersey, USA Sep 13, 2005 Very roasty and chocolate/coffee. Tasted strong for a oatmeal stout, so the 5.7% is not surprising. A very hearty drink. Full-bodied and impressive.
SamGamgee (544), Santa Cruz, California, USA Aug 30, 2008 22oz bottle. Black with a thick tan head. Chocolate and roast, oatmeal and some smoke in the nose. The flavor is smooth, sweet, and finishes with a nice middle intensity roasted bitter finish. The oats give a nice fullness, but the body stays on the lighter, drinkable side. Plenty of dark chocolate flavors, but no harsh burnt malt notes. Good stuff for the most part, but the finish is just slightly watery and thin, with a disconnected lingering sweetness that has a creamy flavor with it. doubleo (765), San Diego, California, USA Aug 29, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours dark brown/black with a thin, light brown head, specks of lace. Smells roasty malty and there’s a little bit of wet dish towel as well. Tastes roasty malty with some slight sweetness. Medium body, vibrant carbonation. stison42 (311), Blacksburg, Virginia, USA Aug 26, 2008 Dark brown. Little head. Great flavor and creaminess. Sweet, oaty, well balanced. Taphouse Grill in Seattle DuffMan (1944), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Aug 16, 2008 Very dark walnut brown, surprisingly lively bubbly head that requires three installments in the pour to avoid spillage. Mouthfeel is smooth and slightly creamy despite such an effervescent intro. Aroma is of rich roast with elements of chocolate and coffee, and a hint of smoke. The palate has no smoke at all, with a sweet roasted character and soundly bitter finish. Very nice. DTM (373), Winters, California, USA Aug 13, 2008 Bottle from Total Wine in Roseville, CA. Poured a black color with a tan head. Smelled of sweet chocolate and coffee. If you like sweet this beer it for you. Sweet chocolate and oatmeal dominated the flavor. A smooth medium-bodied beer. WOW!!
