COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Based on the Flemish classic (Oud Bruin) this very complex beer has many flavor facets. Brewed using redwood tips and the rare Nelson Sauvin hop from New Zealand , this lively red ale is aged in a variety of wine and spirit barrels before blending. The final blend also includes a small amount of our Grand Cru (a blend of both Brother David’s Belgian ales aged in wine barrels). The resulting beer is very complex medium-bodied beer with a vinous character from the wine barrels and spicy notes from both the redwood tips and the Nelson Sauvin hops. Combined with a light sourness from the bacterial fermentation, these myriad flavors are underlined by a smooth, round Belgian character from the Grand Cru – an extremely complex yet very drinkable beer.

Light brown in color.... Aroma is light caramel malts, acidic notes... Flavor is fairly sour up front, gives way to a more nutty, roasted malt backbone with notes of coffee bitterness on the palate... Very complex and a different experience throughout, really enjoyed this...

Sampler at the tasting room. Mahagony color. Aroma is mostly sour grape. Flavor starts with nice malty amber/red caramel notes and transitions into a nice sourness with some buttering hops on the finish. I found this to be a very pleasant combination.

16 ounce sample on tap at mojos in Woodland. The aroma on this is lightly tart, and mostly dominated by some pine character. Light fruitiness, too. Fairly transparent ruddy amber body with a medium off white head. Pretty resilient. Starts with a little sweet flavors, before this has some gentle woody character, and a nice soft balanced tart funkiness. This is spot on for the quasi style, and is severely underrated.

On tap at Tap and Mallet. Why did I pick this one today? Of all the good beers they had there. Cause I wanted something different. Next time I’ll go with something that tastes good. Sour aroma and flavor. A jumble of dried fruits. No head, no lacing

On tap at Capones, pours a hazy amber color, thick medium creamy head, and awesome streaks of lacing. Aromas of red and white wine, some apple brandy, wet wood, basement funky yeast, fruity hops and cheese notes from the nelson. Taste is woody and sour with some bourbon and rich brandy in the finish. Other notes of pinot noir, dark fruit, sour grapes, and apple. Interesting beer, hard to drink alot of it but better then previous ratings.

Draft at Capone’s. Pours hazy caramelly brown with 1-finger khaki head. Nose is tart dark fruit, hops, mild butterscotch. Tastes tart, fruity, with backup hops and some mild woody notes.

Draft at Capone’s: Aroma of diacetyl, butter, and hints of red wine and malt. Poured deep amber/red/brown in color with a large, creamy, dense, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Lightly sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of funk, butter, diacetyl, and some lemon juice. Medium body. Dry texture. Average carbonation. Diacetyl, butter, funk, lemon juice finish is dry. No hint of barrels at all.

On tap at Bocktown Robinson. Meh...probably on par with what I expected. Aroma was caramel with just a hint of stale malt.Pour was a light brown with a one finger off white head. Taste was a little disappointing. The roasted caramel malt was the main flavor with a slight vinegary aftertaste. Mouth feel was very thin and there was barely any finish. Light carbonation.
