Original Commercial Description: Brewed at the Anderson Valley Brewing Company by David Keene, the owner of the legendary San Francisco beer-bar, Toronado, this double-style ale features the huge fruit flavors combined with yeastiness and spiciness that Belgian ales are known for.
Brewed from malted barley, hops, water, demerara sugar, and special trappist yeast.

Pours a deep brown color with an almost nonexistant head. Big caramelized/sweet aroma. Inital taste of caramel and malt is met by a rush of almonds and yeasty goodness. Not overly carbonated, nor sticky, just silky smooth. A nice stab at a double.

Dark brown with a beige head. Aroma contains some toffee, caramel, and spices. The flavor is quite malty with some nuttiness, caramel, and toffee. The palate is a bit thin but thats all good. Some booze in the finish. Overall not bad for a US made tdubbel.

22oz bottle. Pours a reddish brown with a light tan head that fades fast. Big apple aromas waft off the top immediately. A bigger sniff reveals a bit of smoke and cinnamon. Taste is big and malty. The apple comes through but is overwhelmed by dark fruits and a bit of oak and a big aftertaste of smoky malts. A bit of dry sweetness lingers on the tongue.

Bomber. Clear, deep amber liquid with medium off-white/light tan head. Smells of dark fruits, caramel, toffee, banana, belgo yeast esters and biscuity malt. Taste is light sweet and light bitter with notes of dark fruits and caramel. Light to medium bodied with OK carbonation. A bit watery actually. Overall, OK dubbel, but it has got nothing on the better Belgian examples.

660ml bottle shared at Bishops Arms Kiruna. Hazy, dark amber body with a reddish shade. Patchy surface. Aroma of dark and dried fruits, noticeable alcohol. Sweet malts, dark plums and prunes in flavour with a hint of mould cheese. Long-lived bittersweet ending sustained by alcohol. Full bodied. Nice, 28.04.2012

Bottle. Kind of on the imperial side of the Dubbel category. Pours with a very clear mahogany to very deep bronze hue, clear with reddish highlights, medium to slightly smaller head for the style. Off-white head doesn’t last fully. Some alcohol/viscous legs rise above any lace and bat it down slightly. Strong and complex aroma balancing malt and yeast. A plethora of dark fruits, plums, cherries, dates, raisins. Some pear, very light isoamyl acetate as well. Persimmon. Some nutty and light chocolate (fudge notes), caramelized and brown sugars. Light tangyness and low phenol. A bit of a floral, earthy presence that might be a bit of hop. Flavors show the alcohol. Warm, malty. A bit of an odd/too apparent nutty/toasty/earthy/lightly tannic character going on (at first, but it seems to fade (or get overrun by alcohol) as it warms). Big dried fruit character, dates, figs, raisins, persimmon. Lightly rummy and vinous, some floral notes. Malt character once warm is rich in a toasted malt way. Light musty quality from the yeast to go with the dark fruit esters. Very slight phenol presence. Medium sweetness through to the finish which is dry. Slight mineral character felt on the tongue in the finish. Lightly leathery. Some balancing bitterness and alcohol last through the aftertaste. Big and warming! Fuller body with medium-high carbonation. Pretty dry on the finish which is nice. Overall a pretty good interpretation of the style. In California fashion, this is a big version of the style with slightly more hop character than I am use to in the style. Still tasty. One problem I seem to find with American made dubbels are that they finish way too sweet. This one thankfully follows a more traditional model with dryness.

Deep amber like color in the glass. It had an aroma of apples, honey and mild alcohol. The taste has some sweet malts with banana. Fairly smooth with a good finish.

pours brown with no light coming through.thin white head that quickly dissapates.aroma is malt, raisins and dough, flavor completely matching the aroma and alchohol is very well hidden.medium body and heavily carbonated with a fizzy mouthfeel.has a bitter finish but not unpleasant.decent double but could use a little more aroma and flavor profiles going on.a slight improvement would make this beer damn good.perhaps a little spice?says spice in the introduction but im not getting much for an abbey
