merlin48 (356), New Tazewell, Tennessee, USA Jan 30, 2007 Murky brown body with a quickly vanishing tan head. No lacing. Aroma of dark fruits(prunes and figs) and a roasty chocolate note. Medium body with low carbonation. Taste is yeasty with dark fruits. Slightly vinous, with some lactic sourness. Chocolate roasty notes. Not really strong enough to be fusel. Some peppery alcohol. Not very impressed.
blutt59 (798), Dallas, Texas, USA Oct 11, 2008 bottle, dark muddy color, fruity dusty nose, flavors of dry cocoa, nuts, dried fruit and a very nice dry finish mwelsh13 (194), Maryland, USA Oct 10, 2008 Deep brown pour with a rocky tan head. Big roasted aroma with some cocoa and some walnut. Medium body with a good deal of sweetness. Some fig and raisin flavor. fiulijn (5900), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Oct 5, 2008 Bottle from Lee’s Discount Liquor, Las Vegas Dark mahogany color, big thick head. It has a good caramel and chocolate aroma, strong body, medium sweetness, chocolate flavor, caramel of course, correct bitterness, alcohol warmth at the end. Maybe a bit too strong, correctly brewed, but without emotions, monodimensional and boring after a few sips. v8powered (25), , Nevada, USA Sep 27, 2008 Good Dubbel. Virtually no head on the beer. Dark brown color. Slightly nutty/fruity aroma. Carmel maltyness with a slight alcohol aftertaste. Nutty flavor mixed with carmel, cane sugar, slight fruit and alcohol. Finish is a little different which sets it apart from some of the true dubbels. Nice beer for an American dubbel. BOLTZ7555 (531), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Sep 19, 2008 Mostly caramel maltiness in this one...on the nose and tongue. Brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, roasted nuts and yeast are also there. Can definitely sense the alcohol but not so much in the flavor itself, but in how it warms. Clear gem-quality garnet in color with a light khaki foam that diminishes into a small ring around the rim. Decent lacing. Good brew for the price.
