This is a great Triple from Anderson Valley. Not as sweet as most Belgians however the high alcohol content is still well hidden.

Beautiful in the glass, brilliant golden orange with a puffy white head and a continuous, thin stream of bubbles wafting up from the bottom of the glass. Nose light, spicy and a bit yeasty. Flavor is a mite astringent, lots of yeast, some banana/clove as well. Honey-sweet, bit citric in its fruitiness. Not bad.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 BeerLimey (2135) - California, USA - AUG 22, 2004
Slightly hazed amber, decent carbonation, minimal head formation. Strong banana yeast nose with cloves. Sweet yeasty palate, banana, clove, a touch of pineapple, spicy and dry balance, dries, bitters mildly in the finish. This is not bad overall albeit lacking the complexity and depth of many better Belgian strong ales.

UPDATED: MAY 13, 2005 This beer rocks!... Sparkling clear amber ale with a small, fizzy, white head. Tons of citrus fruit, mandarin oranges, spice, lemon and orange blossom honey in the nose. The flavor is well-balanced, tart, spicy and well-bittered with huge notes of warm alcohol. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Nice, spicy, dry finish. World class brew! Underrated!
3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Jokes (1453) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 20, 2004
Hazy, golden body with a thin, quickly diminishing, white head. Sweet spicy vapors await the nose upon first opening. Strong clove, banana, honey, bubble gum (and other fruity esters), alcohol, doughy bread, musk melon, sweet apples and ginger. The body is not overly amazing and perhaps a bit thin. The flavor oscillates between strong spice, strong sweetness and excessive alcohol. This beer would do well with a little more time to allow flavors to meld better--maybe just six months. There is potential, but at least right now, this beer just doesn’t cut it.

Clear amber, not the expected yellow/golden. Clear with a small head that quickly reduces to a bubbly ring that has lasting power. Lacing is nice. The aroma is sweet, candi sugar, maybe a little bit of melon, and a good bit of alcohol. The flavor is a bit medicinal, with candi sugar being the balancing force. Too much alcohol for my tastes. Body is medium with a lingering alcohol finish. Maybe some age will help? Thanks to MrDick for the bottle!

Bottle pours golden, exremely thin dishwater like head, decent carbonation, but with spotty lacing.   Cloves and banana on the nose.   Seems slightly similar to a German Wheat.   Subtle floral hints as well.   Forwardly alcohol, with a yeasty/bready follow up.   While not overbearing, the 10% is quite noticable.   Finishes slightly malty, semi-sweet, with a nice warming alcohol feeling.   Body and mouthfeel are average, with a thin finish.   This seems quite a simplistic Tripel, without the complexities I was hoping for.   Not bad, but their Brother Davids Double is much better.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Ernest (5182) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUL 29, 2004
UPDATED: OCT 12, 2006 Head is initially small, fizzy, off-white, fully diminishing. Body is dark yellow. Aroma is moderately malty
(bread, cookie), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of bubble gum and alcohol. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly
acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lighty acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium to full body,
watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Over two years since my last review and still a very lackluster example in my view. Boozy, sweet, very simple.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 BückDich (5468) - McCall, Idaho, USA - JUL 29, 2004
Pellucid Amber bronze with very light head & some lacing. The aroma is full bodied with alcohol, yeast notes, way too clean. The flavor is sweet, acidic, too much alcohol. Finishes dry, alcoholic, blah.
