deep dark brown, thick rich off-white head, aroma of roasted malt and hops, coffee, a light fruitiness, with some mocha overtones; flavor is bitter and roasted, burnt, nice hop bite, coffee, light hints of chocolate, smooth, not overly rich in texture

Nice black color with a tan layer of head. Aroma is a strong roasted malt. Mouthfeel is pretty smooth and watery, somewhat of a crisp finish. Flavor is a subdued run of the mill porter. Not bad, but I could use a little more to this one.

Nice not quite black, fully roasted flavor in tthe malt. Creamy texture. Not too sweet, but getting close to the extent that I enjoy. very well made porter by a brewery I enjoy and wish still came to this state.

Deep earthy dark brwon with an initial HUGE rocky and creamy head with very good lace. Too huge, overcarbonated. The aroma hints of caramel and burnt malts, bittersweet chocolate, used coffee grounds, berry, light piney and floral hops, and dusty yeast esters. The taste starts twangy and bittersweet. The mocha and malt nature is present with a mild hop undertone. The finish displays the standard smoky and coffee characteristics found in many porters. This medium to full-bodied beer has a lively and rich mouthfeel, chalky after a while. Not too shabby indeed, this porter is quite drinkable AFTER the head settles down.

Paid $2.99 for a 1pt 6oz bottle. JEZUZ, this brewery knows how to have a good head. I've had two from them now, and the heads were equally incredible! This one is again fluffy and tan, sitting atop a gorgeous black liquid. Not much of a smell here... I really wish here was. Smooth bittersweet taste, that's actually kinda plain and thin. Nothing compared to the appearance of this brew. Not bad, but not even the slightest bit original. I'm still going to look for more from this brewery. They make beautiful beers!

I like it when a brewery makes a porter with a decent amount of hops present. Very nice balance in this warm beer.

The beer as it takes its leave of the bottle and takes up temporary residence in my glass a piceous color with some light ruby high lights, the head mastodonic in size, spumous in texture and a toothsome tan in color, the lace a thick and glutinous sheet to smother the glass. Nose is lightly floral, the sweet malt dominate, fresh, crisp and clean, also noticed some light toasted grain and caramel, a fine nose tis true. Start is lusciously sweet, the malt delightful, the top middling in its feel to the palate, finish is pesky in its acidity, the hops pleasing in their spiciness, very dry aftertaste, another winner from a fine brewery, and well worth the sample in my humble opinion.

Perfectly acceptable and delicious tasting porter - my first Anderson Valley beer in over 20 years of tasting (no reason, just the way it worked out). But I liked it just fine!
