3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Courtesy of Degarth. Pours deep dark brown with nice tan head and spotty lacing. The aroma is full, rich, thick and inviting and forces a quick hurried sip. I get notes of roasted malts, biscuit , hints of toffee, wheat bread, roasty burnt malts and chocolate. Pleasing combination. The flavor begins with roasted malts, burnt malts and with mild malt astringency. Into the finish the astringency grows a bit to balance the chocolate malts, mild burnt malts and roasty malts. Ends very nice.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, chocolate, caramel), lightly hoppy (flowers), with hints of vanilla and orange. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Great no-frills porter...mostly roast and chocolate malts, but cleanly done and very light on the PNW-style hops. Great flavor balance; extremely quaffable.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle (22oz). Shared by blankboy with me, garthicus, gregclow, jerc and tupalev. Deep ruby-black with a solid creamy lasting beige head. Dry leafy aroma, oily and grassy, and is that sorghum I smell? Tastes grassy too, with oats and weak coffee - not very roasty, not very anything really. Light, in fact weak, bodied, slightly acidic, with a vaguely burnt aftertaste, after a nothing finish. Lame.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark cocolate brown with a moderate tan coloured head that doesn’t last very long. Nice aromas of bitter chocolate, faint coffee. Very chocolatey palate, faintly raisiny and nutty notes as well, moderately sweet, and earthy faintly minerally note in the finish. A solid porter.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
This black ale poured with a fluffy tan head. The flavor is chocolate malt, but is way too thin. There is a slightly bitter finish. This is a disappointing version of one of my favorite styles.
