Borders. We’ve crossed into uncharted territory with our newest release, El Steinber. In our somewhat unusual take on the style, we add Midnight Wheat malt to give this lager its dark brown color and roasted Indio-Hispano blue corn to lighten the body and create a unique, toasty flavor. German pilsner malt and Saaz hops round out this beer producing a crisp, clean finish and smooth drinkability that is perfect for any occasion.

Can poured a clear brown hue w/ big frothy off-white head diminishing to a lasting cap and some lacing. Faint straw aroma. Initial flavor is moderate sweet w/ a moderate bitter finish of short duration. Tastes are light roast coffee, straw, tin, burnt toast and grass. Medium bodied, lively carbonation, watery mouthfeel, and a burnt metallic finish.

Pint on tap at Beer Revolution’s Edmonton location pours a dark brown color with a small white head that leaves some thin lacing on the glass. Aroma is mild roasted grains and light caramel. Taste is light roasted grain bitterness with a mild caramel malty sweetness. Light bodied with decent carbonation. A little bit lighter in body than I like, but otherwise a pretty solid dunkel.

Pours a clear dark brown with a thin white head. Aroma is bread crusts, rich roasted malts, chocolate, nuts and toffee. Flavour is bread crusts, roasted malts, moderate bitterness, mild sweetness, notes of chocolate & toffee and a medium dry finish.

Pours a clear dark brown with a reddish hue and a small brown head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, bread, nuts and a light bit of spicy hop aroma. Taste is rich melanoidins from the Munich malts, chocolate, toast, roast, nuttiness and a bit of astringent roast malt on the finish however this is acceptable for the style. Mouth is a nice medium body beer that’s not heavy with a moderate carbonation. Great dunkel that shows richness of the Munich malts and a light bit of nobel hops to compliment it.

Amber body nice lacing. Sweet though not too flavourful. Midrange dunkel. Pretty sessionable.

Rich maltiness had lots going on: a slight toffee-like sweetness, chewy grains, tobacco, cereal, multi-grain toast and bread crust. A complementing amount of bitterness followed, leaving behind a drying finish. Nice beer.

Pours a clear dark amber body with a small foamy beige head that faded to a thin film. The nose is rather sweet with a lot of toasted and slightly husky caramel malt. The flavor is pretty thin and very grainy with a huskiness on the finish. This doesn’t come across as very smooth or well lagered at all. Some burnt caramel and cereal grain on the finish. Minimal hoppiness. Light bodied and thin with fizzy prickly carbonation. This was a bit of a disappointment for me, I expect better beer from Anderson Valley.

Batch 1 draught and onwards as recently as 2013
Caramel-colored body has some brighter orange tints to it and shows a very high clarity and a small, wispy light beige head that shows fairly strong retention.
Sweet malts and just a hint of coffee-like roastiness are fairly strong in the nose, with just a kiss of spicy hops. Very clean with some corn notes that are clearly intended (not DMS or anything).
The flavor is what really shines in this one, however. glassy-smooth malt texture allows the sweet malt to slide through the mouth, richly extracted but tempered by the toasty/roasty dark wheat notes and finishing with some corn-like flavors that are enjoyable (if you like that sort of thing). Spicy, herbaceous hops show very little bitterness but quite more flavor than they let on from the aroma. Very drinkable, and after the first few sips, it seems like it may get too sweet over the course of the glass, but it never really does.

Pours a deep rich clear brown with a nice light tan head that laces the glass well after the head has subsided. Aroma of rich caramel along with open out BBQ. Taste is sweet up front with a change to chocolate bitterness around mid palate that then slowly fades into a bready syrup like flavor. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This beer is a very interesting take on dark lager. I think this is the first time I've experienced corn being involved as an intentional addition to the flavor and not as a cost-saving adjunct. Poured from the can, this beer offers a sweet fruity aroma and a murky ruby color, with tan khaki head. Features a variety of fruity hop and yeast flavors, along with toasted malts, some dark chocolate. Complex, but a bit jumbled flavor profile overall. Definitely an original concept, but the execution of this clever idea was a little messy. Smooth, but oily finish on the palate struck me a bit off-putting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy
