Borders. We’ve crossed into uncharted territory with our newest release, El Steinber. In our somewhat unusual take on the style, we add Midnight Wheat malt to give this lager its dark brown color and roasted Indio-Hispano blue corn to lighten the body and create a unique, toasty flavor. German pilsner malt and Saaz hops round out this beer producing a crisp, clean finish and smooth drinkability that is perfect for any occasion.

Tap at The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours clear dark brown with a large creamy beige head. Aroma hints of cola. Med body. Flavor is hinting at nutty brown, but I think dark caramel cola is a better description. Finishes with a light suggestion of chocolate. Tasty.

Draft at Beer Run. Pours a clear dark rust color with a large frothy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of earthy notes, stone fruits and floral notes. The taste is berries and pale crackery malts. Medium bodied. Interesting.

UPDATED: SEP 8, 2013 Can. Dark cola brown body with a tall-building tan head. Malt-forward nose of toasted cereals, cocoa / chocolate with mild touches of noble hops (spice, citrus and flower petals). Medium body, medium-low sweetness, medium bitterness, high acid. VERY dirty fermentation with a lot of solvent and perhaps isovaleric acid (rubber, butter, metal flakes, gravel, etc.). There’s a burnt tire / warm engine compartment smell that I pick up after my first sip, which apparently wasn’t there before I took a drink and re-calibrated my palate. I have to say the nose showed some promise, it was straightforward, malty, had some decent dark fruit esters to play with the chocolate and toasted grains... but god this is a DIRTY beer: acidic, metallic and sour. Unfit for consumption.
