With a brilliant, deep copper hue and creamy beige-colored head, our Fall Hornin’ Pumpkin Ale has inviting aromas of caramelized malt and baking bread with highlights of cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin and seasonal spices. The pleasantly creamy mouthfeel and silky body embrace the sweet caramel flavors and tang of spices (with just a hint of hops) that ends in a smooth, round finish. Malts: Pale Two-Row, Maris Otter, Munich, Crystal 120L, Dark Chocolate, Pumpkin Puree Hops: Bravo

Undated 12 oz can served in a pint glass. Surprisingly dark for style, but clear with a good head. Nice spicy aroma but smells like it may be over-spiced. T: ... and it is. Moreover, the spicing seems too simple with overly dominant nutmeg. M: medium body with medium carbonation.

Can. Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is medium to dark brown. Aroma is lightly malty (cookie), with notes of nutmeg/allspice and cola. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Not bad...pretty simple and straightforward, nothing great or terrible to see here.

Can. Dark brown with crimson highlights and a cap of beige head. Aroma is pumpkin pie, nutmeg and caramel malt. The flavor is mostly cinnamon, pumpkin, caramel and allspice with some toasted grain at the end. The body is slightly creamy with average carbonation and a dry, spiced finish. In the end, the spices dominate everything else.

Pours a copper brown color with a medium off white head. Aroma of pumpkin pie spices, some pumpkin, slight caramel. Tastes of the same. Slightly creamy. Good beer, lighter in pumpkin flavor than I prefer for pumpkin beers.

Sample at the Hills Market beer tasting on 08/22/2013. Pours a clear copper-orange color with a medium off-white head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and pumpkin spices. Light to medium body with flavors of caramel malt, nutmeg and earthy hops. The finish is sweet with a caramel and pumpkin spice aftertaste. Decent overall.

Pours a bubbly copper from the can with off-white head. Aroma is what you expect, pumpkin pie: cinnamon, nutmeg, all spice, pumpkin. Taste follows, kind of light and a bit metallic. Not bad, lower end but way better than shipyard pumpkinhead.

Bottle. Poured 8/20/13. Dark amber-brown with a fluffy, bubbly, off-white/brown head. Aroma is very fresh, smells like Fall; pumpkin, spice, floral, herbal, sweet caramel, some light biter hops. Taste is pumpkin, clove, spice, hint of campfire, vanilla, woody, and something fresh and tasty that I can’t quite put my finger on; finish is fresh pumpkin flesh. Some really nice lacing. Medium carbonation. Mouth feel is slick and oily but with a definite chewy quality. This isn’t bad at all. Enjoying this quite a bit. This pumpkin ale stands out with its freshness of flavor and also some very interesting characteristics in the flavor profile. Worth trying!

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate-heavy cinnamon, lighter nutmeg, ginger, caramel, and light pumpkin. It pours a dark brown with some orange transparency when held to the light. It has a three finger khaki head that has decent retention before fading to a thin film. There is a lot of sticky webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with a quick dose of caramel and roasted pumpkin. The finish has nutmeg, ginger, light cinnamon, and faint roasted nuts. It’s light-medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation. Overall, the flavors are a little mild for my preferences in a Pumpkin Ale.

This, as is the case with all pumpkin spice beers, is a matter of perspective. If you like this style, I believe it is an outstanding representation. It has nice balance of spice, sweetness, and a toasty biscuity finish. The closest thing to a slice of pumpkin pie in a bottle that I can recall, minus the Cool Whip.
