COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This sour ale is produced by aging our Horn Of The Beer Barleywine in Wild Turkey bourbon barrels for extended periods of time (up to 2 years.) The aroma is reminiscent of earthy red wines with a background of caramel and honey and just a hint of wood and sourness. The flavor is intensely sour with a touch of acetic acid and notes of brown malt, toast, and ripe red fruit. The bourbon character adds a savory, woody component that yields subtle notes of coconut and vanilla.

Pouring at EBF 2014. Pours a clear brown with a thin tan head. Fruity and funky, sweet oxidized fruit. Large tart and funky, with big warm boozy notes. Chewy malt and tart funk. Big old fruit lingering full of acid.

Location: Draft at ChurchKey, 11/1/14

Aroma: Sour aroma, has some fruit, and a bit of wood
Appearance: The pour is murky reddish-brown with a small head
Flavor: The flavor is along the same lines, spur and fruity, wood notes
Palate: Medium bodied, slight heat, a little funky on the finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was a solid one. Pretty nice example of the style. Worth trying for sure.

Draft. Hazed brown. Huge american barley wine though the hops are tempered by the Bourbon. Heavy caramel and vanilla, dry oak, finishing tartness that is balamicy but not over the top.

4oz pour at Churchkey’s Night of the Living Ales 2014. Pours a clear caramel amber with loads of creamy, lacing white head. Nose has some rubber, cherry, wood pulp, a little herbal. Flavor is acetic, some candy though too, mild berry, grape, wood pulp, slightly vegetal, some apple notes as well. Tart, hot finish. Not my thing.

Draft at Churchkey. Clear maroon color, tan head. Decent aroma of plums and prunes. Taste is an odd combo of bitter and sour that didn’t work for me, although others in our group liked it.

"This may have started out as a barley wine long long ago, but has become something else entirely. A little bit all over the place with wood, tart cherry, sweet malts seemingly in discord but it comes together. Young and aggressive, but interesting. Seems like a bugged up red wine and bourbon/brandy barrel blend, over what was once a pretty mellow barley wine. Not bad. I’d love to see some of these in bottles to see how they change over the years."
