3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle, from Maruhn 05/2013, no BB but looking fresh. -
Extending the sample range from AV in the EU, this one is easy to remember and seek out because of the unusual "heelch" qualifier derived from the local Boonville "Boontling" pidgin/jargon (apparently a contraction of "the whole cheese" and used denoting a greedy guest).
This DIPA pours a beautiful diffuse deep orange with great lacing and oddly undergoes an agreeable taste evolution as it warms: an immediate alcoholic nose and harsh piney hops in the nose give way to a mellow, biscuit malt-backed array of caramel, wood and pine needle. Not getting any grapefruit from the Chinook or Columbus, the hop profile at entry and exit point is as close to a luscious and in itself exotic West Coast pinewood sampler as I have ever tasted or had need for in an IPA. Palate-cleansing and crass, certainly, with odd subdued qualities for a beer this heavy. So far, the more underwhelming of AVBC’s output on offer in EU.

Dobre chmielne i wytrawne piwo. Podwojona ilosc chmielu dala sie temu piwu mocno we znaki. Bukiet aromatyczny bardzo wysoki. Piana takze spora. Kolor jasnego bursztynu ni i wytrawny finisz.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Murky yellow pour with no head. Aroma is floral and citrus. Palate is overly bitter in the crushed aspirin department vs the malt backbone. Ok. Not great.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bad label on a standard US longneck. Hazy, apricot colored beer with a dense white head. Hop-forward, resinous aroma - sweet and citrus. Big AIPA flavor, lots of pine, grapefruit, citrus pith, sweet taffy/toffee. Medium heavy mouthfeel, prickly hopping in the finish. A big beer, a tired style. New Leaf Market.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a cloudy orangish brass with a frothy off white head and tons of lace. Aroma of biscuit, citrus hops like grapefruit, pine and a slight bit of woodiness. Taste is grapefruit, pine, biscuit with a nice subtle bitterness throughout. Bitterness last for a while and borders on being astringent but is nice.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Definitely has a lot of hops. Very citrusy nose, very hoppy with evergreen notes. Flavour is overbalanced with hop, evergreen, grapefruit and orange. I did not notice any biscuit. Hoppy long lasting finish.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a clear medium gold, with a thick white head.
Lovely hoppy aroma, very fruity, passion fruit, pineapple, spruce, grapefruit peel, mango, grass, malt, caramel.
Off-dry, medium bodied, high bitterness, balanced CO2.
Surprisingly lean taste, very hoppy, spruce, resin, grapefruit peel, malt, mango, passion fruit, grass.
Very nice, but a bit more body would soften the punch from the high ABV a bit better. (2013-04-22)

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle purchased at Ale Wine and Spirits of Powell. Clear gold to amber pour with a thick off-white head. Malty and bready nose with some grassiness and a bit of citrus. Malty and piney flavor with some citrus before a grapefruit finish.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap and snifter served at Ellyn’s in Glen Ellyn, IL. showing an agitated, orangy amber hue at first, but cleared as it settled. The head was frothy white and gradually reduced to a ring & bubbly film. Lacing was clingy and sheet-like. The aroma started sweet, with a slight sense of alcohol. The main components were smooth malt, grapefruit, orange peel, and resiny pine. The flavor was similar, with definite alcohol presence, strong & lingering, rind-like hop bitterness, and sweet maltiness. Medium+ bodied. A big DIPA that never came off harsh, but got smoother as it warmed.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAY 28, 2013 Bottled. An average offering from the brewery at best. Boletus and resinous hops throughout. Not really my kind of double IPA.
