Robust. Brewed with a “heelch” (that means “a lot” in Boontling) of Columbus, Chinook, and Cascade hops, our double IPA has a palate pleasing bitterness that is artfully balanced with a full-bodied malt foundation. With a deep color of polished brass and a nose that sings of pink grapefruit and redwood needles, the rich biscuit-like malt flavors are intertwined with hints of vanilla, mangoes, and peppercorns leading to a deep, warming finish.

MALTS:
Pale Two-Row, Victory

HOPS:

8oz sample at the Taphouse Grill. Pours pale orange with a white head. Aroma has caramel and pine, but quite faintly so. Taste is of watery caramel, some hoppiness. Finishes fairly short. Not a great choice in a place with 20 hoppy local IPAs on tap.

From a 650ml bottle. Pours a pretty large amount of frothy off-white head and has a light amber coppery appearance. Thick sticky lacing. Aromas of bready malts, strong citrus and resin hops. Flavours are mainly hoppy, citrusy but also somewhat malty as well, with thick bready and even yeasty notes. Some hints of caramel and a little bit of sweetness. Has a good balance of sweetness and bitterness though I might add. Astringent and bitter sensation on the palate. Pretty good, but one bottle is enough in one sitting. A bit heavy.

650 ml bottle from the LCBO.

Appearance: Pours a light coppery colour with a couple fingers of creamy off white head. Decent retention and lots lacing.

Aroma: Hint of hops and some malt.

Flavours: Malt and some hops.

Mouthfeel: Average viscosity and carbonation.

Overall: I was getting hop flavours but also a good malt backbone. The flavours thought overall are somewhat muted as I don’t think this one arrived in Ontario at its freshest. Still, this is not a bad IPA and I would give it an 8 or of 10. If it were fresh, it would probably be a 9 out of 10. If I can find a fresher batch sometime, I’d be happy to try and rerate this as I think it has lots of potential.

Pours clear amber with a small frothy off white top. Aroma is big pine and grapefruit hops with light dankness. Taste is biscuity malts, big blast of dank pine and grapefruit hops that is awesome. And it the bitterness lingers.

Tasting class @Tommyknocker Helsinki. Delicious creamy looks with small white longlasting head. Soft open nose with notes of toffee, light banana and delicate hops. Smooth deep palate with loads of flavor and length. Really tasty brew.

Bottle from the LCBO. Slightly hazy orange gold with a big off white head that lingers and leaves some lace. Nose is grapefruit and pine with some spice and tropical fruit. Nice and bitter throughout with a good supporting toffee and honey base. Mango and tangerine feature in the finish. Medium slick mouth with average carbonation and a long bitter finish. Balanced with some interesting layers.

650 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a clear orange colour with pretty big, dense, lacey white head. Aroma is pine resin and tropical fruit with a solid caramel presence and some graininess. Flavour is big and hoppy with equal parts resin and tropical fruit - tangerine and grapefruit - as well as some caramel, grains and a little candy sugar. Bigger bodied. Impressive.

Bottle from the LCBO. Bright orange-copper body with a good sized close-to-white head. Thick and resinous aroma of citrus peel and pine, with some caramel and orange blossom sweetness playing support. Flavour follows the aroma pretty closely, with tangerine, orange oil, grapefruit peel and pine resin all coming on strong, although as it warms, a stronger malt base starts to come through. In the end, it verges on being a well-hopped barley wine.

Smells nice, classic double IPA aromas. Sweet malt, onion like hop aroma, citrus. Clear golden color, foamy white head. Tastes nice, quite on the malty side. Upfront a candy sweetness, finishes with stinging hops, onion and citrus characteristics. Long bitter finish. An assertive, if uncomplex, double IPA. Medium bodied and average carbonation.
