The refreshing tartness in this divine, bright golden-colored ale gives way to earthy undertones and hints of citrus followed by a slight sea salt-like dryness and tangy, effervescent finish.

Bottle bought at an Albert Heijn supermarket; ABV says 4.0% so apparently a tad less strong than the can version depicted here. One of the best known American Goses, with loosely structured, off-white, bubbly, coarse head quickly thinning into a wafer thin rim around the glass and some dots in the middle; lightly hazy yellow blonde with somewhat greenish hue. Aroma of sourish grains, old cardboard, fresh apple juice, soap, sourdough, vague salted lemon, subtle coriander seed, faint hints of banana peel, raw celery, old cloth, something vaguely metallic. Gently souring onset, lactic but a tad lemony as well without becoming puckering, yet drying the entire palate in a soft kind of way; fruity hints of apple, apricot and unripe peach, light salty touch on the sides of the tongue - actually lighter than I am used to from the style. Carbonation is quiet and subdued, mouthfeel is light and smooth but thin as well, almost a tad watery. The soft, almost minerally sourness, reminiscent of sparkling water with lemon juice in it, continues over a soapy wheat middle with bread crust-like accent, and lends a crisp, refreshing character to the finish, where it is met with a pinch of dry coriander seed, accentuating the soapiness of the wheat but in a very subtle way; the salty touch returns in the end too. This is a straightforward and quenching, but subtle and rather restrained rendition of the style: most other Goses I had, contained more outspoken saltiness (I get little Sauerkraut or pickled lemon in the taste here) and more coriander; the low ABV in combination with the low carbonation makes for a very light, if not watery mouthfeel with even a very slight metallic touch somewhere. I have no doubt that this is about the worst condition I could have tasted this beer in: this must be a lot better when fresh, or even from a can in some specialized beer shop. A bottle from a shelf in a supermarket is never the best place to get a beer in top condition, so I will give this another try if I encounter it again in another form and other circumstances. For now: a bit of a letdown actually, I expected more ’oomph’ in the salt and coriander department and a less clean profile, this is almost like a pale lager with sourness built into it, if I were unwilling to detect the more subtle flavours. But this sourness is just about right and does have a very quenching, crisp, refreshing effect, no doubt about that. I will use this as an introduction to the style, though, since it is easily the most accessible example I had so far...

$2.29 can from Whole Foods, CHO. Pours extremely pale golden, small white head. Aroma is sour: lemon, grains, mild herbs. Taste is lemony, hose water, other fruitiness, tiny bit of salt in the finish - pretzel salt - in fact it almost tastes like it came off of a soft pretzel. Not bad at all.

Lemony with some wheat-grainy notes. In mouth dry to the bone with lively salty tang in the end and minimal bitterness. Fari sourness and tartness. Nice, easy, drinkable and nothing really spectacular when it comes to clean gose.

Can:   Bright straw, vibrant, translucent, large foamy white head, nice lacing.   Soft wheaty nose, salty, some minor straw, hay, and grass.   First thing to notice is the immediate dryness.   Nice and tart, slightly sweet, a little salty, pretty tasty.   Not as dry as others, but its fairly bright.   Average body and mouthfeel.   Nice, dry, sweet and salty, but could stand to be a smidgen drier.

Puszka. Aromat niezbyt intensywny, głównie cytrynowy, kojarzy się też trochę z białym, wytrawnym winem. Barwa słomkowa, jasnozłota, klarowna. Piana biała, o niskiej obfitości, pęcherzyki drobne i średnie, po chwili znika całkowicie. Smak wytrawny, dominują nuty kwaśne; ale też lekko słony i gorzki. Wysycenie średnie.
