Hop-Heads, your dreams have come true! Hop Ottin' is Boontling for "hardworking hops," and they're surely hard at work in this brew. Hop Ottin' starts with a strong floral aroma, which winds into a deep and complex body. In an intriguing balance, honey-drenched malts coat rich hop undertones. At length, the hops prevail, with a satisfyingly crisp finish. Hop Ottin' bites like a cankicky bluetail (Hop Ottin' bites like a rattlesnake looking for a fight.)

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a semi-clear copper color. Thereís about two fingers worth of off-white colored head, though the texture is a bit rougher than I prefer. The retention is solid enough, though, and good amounts of lacing are left behind. S: The hops here are mostly piny, with some lemony hints and no tropical fruits (or any other citrusy notes) anywhere. Meanwhile, its malt backbone is loaded with toffee and nuttiness. I kind of wish this was less malty and more fruity, but thatís only personal preference. T: Thereís a slight opening of nutty sweetness - then boom, the hops hit. Sadly, there isnít much hop flavor, rather it relies on grassy bitterness as a ballast toward the building caramel sweetness. Thereís something past the swallow suggesting leather, and after half the bottle, becomes too malty for me. But itís still pretty good at the end of the day. M: Carbonation pokes through the body quite strongly, and helps to dry out the finish some. Itís also quite crisp and relatively light (if somewhat sweet on the linger), so this one is pretty drinkable. O: This kind of IPA - sweetish, bitter from the hops, no citrus - isnít my style, but this *is* well made considering that. I have trouble finding this one fresh, and itís a bit pricier than the standard IPA 6-packs; as a result, this one isnít on my ímust buy immediatelyí list.

Cloudy amber IPA with a nice creamy foam which gave with beautiful lace on the glass. Very hoppy yet easy-grounded flavor.

Alengrin (243) - BELGIUM - JUL 25, 2014
Typical American West Coast IPA with a yellowishly white, stable, nicely regular head and pure amber colour, clear but misty after adding the yeast deposit, as it is supposed to be. Bready and citrussy aroma, tonic water, lemon zest, nutmeg, cheese, walnuts; taste begins with an orangey sweetness, caramel-like malts, smooth and supple, bit oily mouthfeel with strong carbonation, ending in a grassy, peppery hop bitterness, long and well-balanced. Very nice, fortunately I still have one left.
