On tap at Papago. Pours clear amber with a thin beige head. The nose is sweet caramel, dried fruits and light hops. The taste is chewy caramel, spice, like chocolate and earthy hops. Medium bodied. Tasty.

Poured up on tap at the Chandler, AZ Whole Foods (who knew?) with deep clear copper body and nice looking tan head. The aroma offers up a good load of pine hops and then raisins and a faint level of black licorice. The taste is a bit thick with yummy rich prune, raisins and molasses notes. It later picks up a good level of pine hops to midway and carries nicely into the finish. The pine is only a supporting note here where the esters and malts are the forward component.

Sampled on tap at 1702; March 2011
The beer arrives with a pale amber head that sits on top of a dark red colored beer that shows a brown-amber hue when held up to the light. There is an interesting berry-mint aroma to this beer up front. Other aromas of caramelized malt and toasted grain form a solid backbone to the nose. There is a weird fruitiness to this beer, but in a good way, but it is sometimes soapy (is it the tap lines). The aroma is actually quite nice; spicy, fruity, herbal and a big malt character are all quite well balanced.

The beer is lightly sweet tasting, and this is well balanced by the fruit character and herbal hop and toasty malt character found in the flavor. A huge crystal malt influence contributes some sweet tea like flavors. A big berry character mixes with hints of tobacco, a not quite menthol notes and caramelized citrus note, each of these notes are from a combination of the hop and malt found in this beer. This has a nice, medium body to it, that is light enough to still be quaffable. This is a pretty good beer that has some interesting character to it.

On tap @ Papago. Pretty disappointed by this one. Dark chestnut pour with a creamy foam head that left tons of lacing. Aroma is all caramel. Flavor is extremely sweet and somewhat cloying with honey, brown sugar, and toffee...very lightly hopped. Again, a bit syrupy.

Reviewed from notes. Pours amber with a light tan head. Nose brings forward some citrus hops along with a good deal of sweet caramel malt. Taste is the same with some bitterness coming through. Mouthfeel is a hit sweet. Drinks fairly well, but could definitely use some improvements. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 10-07-2010

Backlog. On tap at Papago. Pours a mahogany color with a trim off-white head. Smells and tastes of allspice, vanilla, and brown sugar. Like a pie. Yum.

on tap at papago 10/7/10. dark reddish brown pour with a light tan head. the aroma and flavor are quite hoppy... notes of toast, bready malt richness and pears cooked in nearly burned caramel. medium to full body is dangerously quaffable. 7/4/7/3/16/3.7

Tap @ Toronado SD. Pours a lightly hazed deep amber with a bubbly off white head. Strange nose, was kind of perfumey with some faint astringent qualities.

(on draught at Papago). Pours clear mahogany with tan head. Taste is sweet with a nice citrusy hop bite. Aroma of caramel malts and citrus. Medium bodied with an oily texture, the carbonation is prickly on the the tongue. Finish is slightly bitter and smooth. Alcohol is noticeable. A pretty nice, hoppy beer.
