COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Complexity. Aged for three months in Wild Turkey Bourbon barrels, this luxurious stout has a deep ebony hue and a beautiful mahogany head. The woody, vanilla-like notes imparted by the barrels mingle with aromas of fresh baked bread, toffee, and espresso and envelop the rich chocolate and roasted barley flavors with a fine bourbon character. Our exclusive partnership with Wild Turkey gives Anderson Valley a world class, consistent source of barrelage, allowing our brewers to explore new frontiers in barrel-aged craft beer.

On tap at Brunzies (10/2/15). Light bourbon nose, vanilla, chocolate. Rich with mild molasses. Dark black with thin tan head. Medium-chewy body with medium carbonation. Sweet start with molasses and bourbon. Mild nutty bitter finish. Sweet smooth bourbon after.

Deep rust-brown beer under a thick brown-beige head. Bourbon jumping out of the glass with vanilla, fresh oak rosewater, pepper. More Bourbon, but lighter in the mouth; milder than the nose suggests. Very light but present acidic touch. Vinous it is, though. Not very full-bodied, however. Bit light in MF. Low to medium carbonation. Lighter then one expects from this type of beer. But none the worse for it, really.

I was shocked when I tasted this brew! My favorite has always been Whatney’s Cream Stout and I now settle for Guiness Stout which really doesn’t come close in any sense. As I opine Whatney’s to be my very favorite and have never tasted anything close, I now have a brew that I can at least look for on occasion and know that I am getting a true, honest to gosh, down right good tasting brew. Lets suffice it to say that AVWTBS is outstanding. I only hope they will keep on brewing it and not cut its life short like DIagio did to Whatney’s. Cant believe those guys lost the recipe....
