Complexity. Aged for three months in Wild Turkey Bourbon barrels, this luxurious stout has a deep ebony hue and a beautiful mahogany head. The woody, vanilla-like notes imparted by the barrels mingle with aromas of fresh baked bread, toffee, and espresso and envelop the rich chocolate and roasted barley flavors with a fine bourbon character. Our exclusive partnership with Wild Turkey gives Anderson Valley a world class, consistent source of barrelage, allowing our brewers to explore new frontiers in barrel-aged craft beer.

Pours black with a one finger tan head with nice lacing. Aroma is of bourbon, roasted malts, coffee, molasses, sweet malts, and some light chocolate. Taste is similar to the aroma. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel. Overall, a tasty, low alcohol bba stout that features some nice bourbon flavors without the booze that is typical for the style.

I was in Louisville, and stopped by the local store looking for a bottle of Bourbon Ale or Stout (tastes better there). The guy in the store brought this out and touted its consistency. Interesting to bring out a CA beer even though I was in KY. Very good choice. My only advice is to make sure it’s good and cold - it still had a smooth taste while somewhat warm, but after 30 min of hotel ice, the bottom of the bottle was excellent.

The Bourbon of choice for Hunter S. Thompson and David Foster Wallace, Wild Turkey is known for its burn. It wouldn’t be my first choice in whiskey for a barrel-aged Stout, but Anderson Valley has made a surprisingly smooth brew with it. In fact, this Stout is more mild than many other barrel-aged dark ales. Rich barley, subtle vanilla, and cocoa are the most prominent smells and flavors. While you do notice the alcohol, it’s tucked nicely under the malt and oak tones. I’d like a slightly fuller mouthfeel, but otherwise, Wild Turkey Bourbon Barrel Stout leaves little to complain about.

Bottle. A- Bourbon, booze, roasty, smoke, woody, cherries, cocoa. A- Black color, black liquid, light brown head. T- Bourbon, boozy, wood, cherries, dark fruits, cocoa. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth finish. O- I couldn’t believe this wasn’t an imperial stout when reading the label. After the first sip I was even more confused. It tasted like a barleywine or imperial stout with the booze and dark cherries but yet felt as light as a wheat beer. This was well balanced and felt right in all the best places.

25th May 2015: on-tap US pint during Happy Hour at the Yard House, Irvine. Served a bit too cold, but as it warmed a little the aroma and flavours burst forth. Black bodied with a tanned foam on top. Bourbon esters in the malty nose, Bourbon hints in the malty flavour: semi-sweet as it warms. A tad thin body wise but flavoursome and interesting.

Tap at toronados in San Francisco with commonmac and rosskyle and wildcard. Black with small tan head. Sweet nose with dark fruit. Taste is sweet and sour more than expected from a stout. Not creamy. Can taste those bourbon elements, only a little stout. Interesting and good.
