Complexity. Aged for three months in Wild Turkey Bourbon barrels, this luxurious stout has a deep ebony hue and a beautiful mahogany head. The woody, vanilla-like notes imparted by the barrels mingle with aromas of fresh baked bread, toffee, and espresso and envelop the rich chocolate and roasted barley flavors with a fine bourbon character. Our exclusive partnership with Wild Turkey gives Anderson Valley a world class, consistent source of barrelage, allowing our brewers to explore new frontiers in barrel-aged craft beer.

Found this on tap at the Yard House in Chino Hills. Barney Flats aged in a bourbon barrel! I’ve tried many stouts that have been aged in bourbon barrels some are good and some are so over powered by bourbon and oak that they taste like soy sauce. The good news is Anderson Valley nailed this one. If you Enjoyed the Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout like I did this is gonna rock your world. The Appearance is Black l and it had a 1" head that stuck around for little while leaving a nice little lacing on the glass. The aroma is intoxicating in itself, bourbon ,oak, cocoa, and coffee up front and sharing the stage nothing really overpowering the other. The mouth feel is smooth and creamy as expected from an oatmeal stout. It taste like it smells except the malts and hops come forward and add tho the blend. The mild after taste is just like it smells mild bourbon and oak burn with chocolate. My new Favorite. Now if I can just find it in Bottles around here.

Bottle from Beer Frog Spring Hill. Pours a stout brown with an off-tan head. Nose is some chocolate, some boozy whiskey, some earth, and some almost cola flavor. Flavor hits with chocolate, soda, some boozy bourbon, and a hint of earth. Light in body and lingering boozy bourbon into the finish.

Shows a pitch black body with virtually no head. Nose has a really heavy dose of bourbon with a somewhat unpleasant note. The taste is fairly sweet with a mellow, mildly bitter finish. Medium carbonation and hefty palate. The bourbon barrel aging really pushes through on the nose and is a bit overwhelming.

Bottle. Dark almost black, brown head. Aroma coffee, sour oak and bourbon. Taste licorice, bitter, not so sweet, alcoholic taste. Nice, but flat finish, light texture, fizzy.

Pours a nice dark brown, almost black, with a tan head. Aroma of bourbon and wood. Taste is again mostly bourbon and wood. Very little beer taste there. This is decidedly not an ’imperial stout’. I won’t get this one again. Disappointing.

Bottle. Closer to a porter than a stout, I thought. Nice enough though; the bourbon flavour stops short of being overpowering.
