4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Found this on tap at the Yard House in Chino Hills. Barney Flats aged in a bourbon barrel! I’ve tried many stouts that have been aged in bourbon barrels some are good and some are so over powered by bourbon and oak that they taste like soy sauce. The good news is Anderson Valley nailed this one. If you Enjoyed the Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout like I did this is gonna rock your world. The Appearance is Black l and it had a 1" head that stuck around for little while leaving a nice little lacing on the glass. The aroma is intoxicating in itself, bourbon ,oak, cocoa, and coffee up front and sharing the stage nothing really overpowering the other. The mouth feel is smooth and creamy as expected from an oatmeal stout. It taste like it smells except the malts and hops come forward and add tho the blend. The mild after taste is just like it smells mild bourbon and oak burn with chocolate. My new Favorite. Now if I can just find it in Bottles around here.

On tap at Zeitgeist. Roasty vanilla aroma. Awesome smooth roasty toasted marshmallow taste. A fun change having a rich bourbon barrel stout that’s NOT imperial.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Chocolate, espresso, and vanilla in the nose, pours with deep black with mocha colored head and good lacing. Nice viscosity, creamy, oily mouthfeel, with a rich character of dark chocolate, espresso, roast, burnt sugar, vanilla, and bourbon. A damn fine ale. Would be nice to see this at 10-12% to add some yeast and alcohol driven complexity.

So as long you like bourbon you’ll be fine. Tastes like a wild turkey shot bombed into a nice stout. I like the idea but I can understand if someone says it tastes a hell of a lot like bourbon and not a whole lot else. Oak, vanilla, on a nice light stout beer. Well worth trying!

Tap @ pour. Dark brown with mocha head. Smells like bourbon and dark fruit and vanilla. Bourbon comes through in the flavor. Warming but not too heavy.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Old rating, pretty good beer not a great BA beer though. Coffee and roast from the stout. Vanilla and hear from the barrel. Decently balanced. No pop. Guy at liquor store tried to offer me this up as a replacement for KBS. Ha.

3.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Sweet and flavorful. You can definitely tell it was aged in Wild Turkey barrels. Strong by separate Stout and Bourbon flavors. Overall very good.

There is a mild smell of bourbon ini the nose. Otherwise innocent in the aroma. The mouthfeel of the beer is excellent, lots of maltiness. The taste has strong notes of vanilla and is a little plain otherwise.

2015 March Madness weekend - Smooth stout, with a nice hint of vanilla, very dark and creamy, Nothing outstanding but nothing offensive either.
