Complexity. Aged for three months in Wild Turkey Bourbon barrels, this luxurious stout has a deep ebony hue and a beautiful mahogany head. The woody, vanilla-like notes imparted by the barrels mingle with aromas of fresh baked bread, toffee, and espresso and envelop the rich chocolate and roasted barley flavors with a fine bourbon character. Our exclusive partnership with Wild Turkey gives Anderson Valley a world class, consistent source of barrelage, allowing our brewers to explore new frontiers in barrel-aged craft beer.

Found this on tap at the Yard House in Chino Hills. Barney Flats aged in a bourbon barrel! I’ve tried many stouts that have been aged in bourbon barrels some are good and some are so over powered by bourbon and oak that they taste like soy sauce. The good news is Anderson Valley nailed this one. If you Enjoyed the Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout like I did this is gonna rock your world. The Appearance is Black l and it had a 1" head that stuck around for little while leaving a nice little lacing on the glass. The aroma is intoxicating in itself, bourbon ,oak, cocoa, and coffee up front and sharing the stage nothing really overpowering the other. The mouth feel is smooth and creamy as expected from an oatmeal stout. It taste like it smells except the malts and hops come forward and add tho the blend. The mild after taste is just like it smells mild bourbon and oak burn with chocolate. My new Favorite. Now if I can just find it in Bottles around here.

Bottle - 650ml. Pours an opaque black body with an average beige foamy head. Fantastic, complex malty/hoppy aroma with bourbon, chocolate, and vanilla hints. Its robust malty taste carries hoppy, woody, and bourbon notes. It is not as rich as the aroma but it is still very enjoyable. Ends with a decent, slightly warming, bittersweet finish. Good stuff.

Bottled from Systembolaget Black with a beige head. Wood, coconut and vanilla in the aroma. More coconut in the flavour. Rather light body and bitterness. Surprisingly bland.

Draught @ Taphouse. Pours clear dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coconut, roasted malt, vanilla, oak, dark wheat bread and coffee. Taste is moderate sweet and light+ bitter. Body is near medium, texture borders on being thin, carbonation is soft. Finishes malty.

22oz. bottle, date unknown. Aroma of iced coffee, dark chocolate, roasty malts, slight bourbon, and touches of vanilla in the background. Solid ebony in color with a lasting, fine-bubbled, light tan head, very nice lacing here as well. Flavor profile is a tad more woody and oaky than let on by the nose, with plenty of dark roast, earthiness, chocolate and some faint bourbon and cherry in the background, finishing with a touch of hop bitterness. Smooth, creamy and full on the palate with a generous body. Simply rendered but rather pleasant overall.

Taste is packed with vanilla, anise and chocolate and is smooth and tasty. Appearance is dark and clear with orange highlights and spotty lacing. Nose is anise. Palate is not super complex, but well blended. Good stuff.

650ml bottle. Pours black with a good size foamy brown head. Aroma is nice mixture of bourbon and chocolate. Taste is more of the same. Palate slightly thin but then only because it’s so easy to draw comparisons with higher ABV barrel aged stouts. Although it may not be the most complex, it actually works rather nicely as a lower strength counterpart to bigger imperials.

Smell and pour look promising. Initial taste is a flat stout followed by light oats and finishes vanilla. Subpar really.
